Discard after 1 hour?

I was reading the back of the can of formula and it says to discard after 1 hour once the baby starts to eat. Maybe I'm just completely oblivious...but whats the reason for that?

Because it starts to go off I imagine? I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to leave a glass of milk on the side for an hour and then drink it.

Something to do with the bacteria that multiply in it or something but I don't always discard after an hour and it's never done Grace any harm.

I think once they are older it doesnt matter as much... one of my friends has always made bottles and kept them for more then 1 hour and nothings happened to her son... im paranoid though haha.

I never threw them out...couldn't afford to waste the formula, it's way too expensive! I'd just put it in the fridge!

If they start to drink it, it's no longer sterile as it's been exposed to the air and to baby.

I don't think it matters once they get a little older, only when they're really young & extra susceptible to illness

Ours says it can be put in the fridge but shouldn't be left at room temp for more than an hour...I would never give it to them if it was out even close to that long, yeah it's expensive but it goes bad just like milk or anything else.

Thank you all for the replies.

I wasn't implying that I was gonna ignore the warning....I was just generally curious. Maxson usually finishes his bottles in 15 minutes or so, so I've never worried about it being out too long.
