What's the difference between Dr Brown 'wide neck' and 'standard' bottles?

Apart from one being wider... what is the difference? Does it being wider or narrower make a difference?

Thanks!

Thats a very good question - sorry I can't help with the answer but I was also wondering the same thing. We use the wide neck ones, haven't seen the narrow/standard ones about in the shops apart from ebay!

Difference between wide neck and standard bottles

Hi Sarah,

My name is Lisa and I am a mom of two boys. I also work for Dr. Brown's and saw your post. Here is some information on the Dr. Brown's wide neck versus standard bottles.

The function exactly the same as far as the venting system goes. However, we have found that many babies who are being transitioned from breast to bottle tend to do better using the wide neck bottle due to its unique nipple shape – it is more like moms breast. The wide neck bottles, (specifically the nipple) can prevent the “nipple confusion” that babies often experience.

Having said all that, some babies transition from breast to any bottle without issue and other babies who are not breastfed at all just prefer the wide neck.

I hope this helps.

Have a great day.

We had the wideneck bottles, the difference I agree is in the nipple shape mainly, it's more like mom's breast, the standard bottles have more regular bottle nipples.

If you are looking to have these bottles when baby can feed his/herself, the wide neck are really awkward for them to hold (well, Elyse struggles while she can hold her other "standard bottles" on her own)

Hi, my 6 week old is having some problems with wind. He sucks well for the first ounce then doesn't seem to have to suck as hard and gets a bit sleepy, this has just started happening in the last few days. Does it make a difference to the flow of the milk using standard or wide neck, also should I renew the teats to level 1??
