I breastfed for the first 2 weeks but had to stop due to LO having problems latching on resulting in excrutiatingly painful nipples and a very low milk supply. My MW's were pro BF and gave me a lot of support trying to get LO to latch and also when I wanted to try and express but they were never pushy or made me feel bad. In fact I gave myself more of a hard time than they did. They were very supportive of my decision to stop and congratulated me for giving it a go and bf'ing for 2 weeks.

I FF because I don't feel comfortable with the idea of breastfeeding - strange as that might sound. Despite my longing to have a baby for many years, it's not something I have ever thought about or had the urge to do.

When I was pregnant I did go through a phase where I thought I might give it a go, but I soon decided against this as I knew my heart wouldn't really be in it and I would only get stressed and in turn stress out my baby. I know I have made the right decision as Francesca is thriving and I'm a very happy mummy.

I'm lucky in the fact that whilst the midwife did remind me that "breast is best" she also said that the decision on how to feed baby was completely mine and that there would be no pressure from her or any of the staff at the hospital to try breastfeeding - and that is the experience I had and I'm very thankful for it.

If they had tried to pressure me into it I know I would have simply told them I had made my decision and I would appreciate it if they respect that - I know DH would have backed me up too.

I formula feed because DD has intestinal malabsorption and was pooping blood. She also has SEVERE allergies. DD is on a special formula called EleCare.

She didn't nurse and so I had to pump and bottle feed and even once I got back to nursing my supple never recovered -but- the doctors encouraged me to switch completely to formula.

The WIC nurse who took a collage course tried to tell me she knew more than the doctors who went to school for like 12 years. I laughed at her and told her I'd be following the advice of DOCTORS not her.

I didn't choose to formula feed, there was no choice, I didn't produce enough milk, infact I didn't really produce any, despite every 2 - 3 hours using an industrial pump to express...I looked like a friggin cow with them attached to me! So I had to formula feed. I have to admit I do get annoyed its always 'if you chose to formula feed' when I read my NHS book it says choose and there are pages and pages about breast feeding. We are made to think in pregnancy that breastfeeding is possible for everyone but since having my baby I have realised that its not possible for so many women.

I wish healthcare professionals and literal advice would consider that for some people its not a choice.

That's very true, there really isn't a lot of information out there for those women who can't breastfeed rather than choose not to.

I'm sorry you had the choice taken away from you love
