Oh my lord, I'm struggling!

Hi everyone, any tips would be much appreciated, feel Kim I'm losing the plot! My routine is out the window! I have pretty much turned to feeding on demand as my 11 week old has slowly gone all over the place and I'm left guessing whether he's tired or hungry! Today went like this...

6.30 am woke up after a 4am 6oz feed because of this at 7 am he only took 4oz (he's 13lb and sometimes draining 6/7oz)

He got tired at 8 am and slept for 45 mins

I fed him at 10.30am as I'm trying to keep to 3.5 hours, he sometimes goes 3 hours or even 4

He took 7oz

Tried to put him down for a nap at 11.30am as he was getting tired but only napped until 12pm so had to go out in the car to get him to nap for another half hour

From then on, his bottles and naps descend into chaos!

I fed him again at 2pm as he seemed hungry but think he was tired as he fell asleep after 4oz but this was prob because he didn't nap long enough at lunch

Then he woke screaming for another feed as he hadn't eaten enough... And so it goes on, he then had his longest nap at 4.30pm until 5.30pm fast asleep!

We have started a consistent bedtime, bath at 6pm, bottle at 6.30pm and then down at 7pm which he responds to well as we started it when he was 6 weeks old however it's increasingly difficult to judge anymore as his daytime is all over the place, he wakes at 11pm for a feed and takes 6oz but then wakes at 3/4am for another feed only taking a small amount and back to sleep! I don't think he really needs this, it seems to be habit as he doesn't seem hungry, I've tried him with a dummy instead but he just wakes at 5am and takes a full feed then he's off for the rest of the day and it starts again... I really am getting teary writing all this as I feel like a crap mum! He seems constantly grumpy as I can't seem to get it right, ive read both baby whisperer and it made me want to cry even more!!! I just can't seem to start the say right because of his night feed, I'm confused by it all and I'm sure he is as his days are so different! Please tell me I'm not going insane, feel like I can't go anywhere as I just don't know what the day will bring, it was easier before when he was every 3 hours but now he either falls asleep on his bottle or drains it! Any advice would be much much appreciated, the HV said he should be establishing his own routine now but I just can't see any patterns at all... It doesn't help when people keep saying their babies were sleeping from 11pm until 7am at this weight/age... Thanks for reading xxx

I would ride it out. Im only just noticing a set pattern in when my LO wants feeding. If it makes you feel better my lo started sleeping through at 15 weeks. He goes to bed at 6.30 after a bottle then has a dream feed at 10, he now goes through til 7-8am but until 15 weeks woke again at 3am. He still does occasionally if he is going through a growth spurt.

my LO is like this atm. i just go with the flow and think and hope he will settle down at some point into his own little routine.his feeds are usually 3 hours in the day(on a good day) but its the unknowen at night lol.it can very slightly frustrating when he decides his starving half hour to a hour before his bed time bath as then it messes up his routine and not hungry after his bath yet expects a bottle.

all i can do is send hugs and hope your one settles down soon for you x

Oh thank you all so much, it's really helped! My OH is away for two nights and your words have just may be got me through! I just feel everyone is always thinking that he should be in a routine by now but he still feels so young to me and I cancope with the night feed, it always just feels like a race to the finish line trying to get them to sleep through when I should really be enjoying every moment, thank you all xx

Sounds like he's getting overtired to me.

My LO is 17 weeks, feeds every 4hours (ish, sometimes he doesn't quite make it).
I put him for a nap after he's been awake 2hours (although mostly a bit before this if he's getting grumpy) and he'll sleep for up to 2hours.
If I put him down after 2hours of being awake, and he's overtired, he'll only sleep for about half an hour and then is really grumpy and cries a lot (sometimes get mistaken for hungry cries, where in fact he's still tired).

At 11 weeks, I wouldn't let him go longer than 1hr15mins-1hr30mins before going for a nap. I think 3.5hrs between a feed is doable at that age.
Aim for 2 naps of almost 2 hours and one shorter nap of around 45mins (around 5pm) so he's got enough energy for bath at 6pm.

I'd also try a dream feed between 10pm and 11pm.

HTH

He will be due a growth spurt any day, but good napping will help you get through that too.
