change in formula - change in routine??

So I'm fighting a battle with my GP with regard to silent reflux. She won't try anything other than gaviscon and seeing as that didn't suit my LO she's suggested that I change formula and then she mentioned that he may be lactose intolerant but to try an off the shelf formula before she prescribes a soy formula.

So anyway , yesterday I swapped him from aptamil to cow&gate (I thought these 2 were very simlar so wouldn't mess him around too much) he had his first feed of C&G at 5.30pm and from then on his little routine he's found himself went out the window. He didn't 'stock up' before bedtime. Infact I had to wake him for bath time! Then when he woke up in the night at 2am (normally sleeps till 4) he had 8oz (normally 6) and wouldn't go back to sleep till 4.30 is it just a coincidence that this happened the day I changed formula?!

So anyone who's changed formula did your babys patterns and routines change? Or can I hope that tonight will be different?!

Xx

Any formula change will cause some disruption until they get used to it. You would maybe have been better switching to comfort milk.

The doctor said to try a 'normal' formula. I have to play along with her now or else she won't treat the reflux. Just wondered if a change in formula would cause a change in routine

Perhaps try hipp organic if you haven't already. There's a few ladies on here that have used it with reflux babies and have seen good results. I was under the impression that soy based formula should be a last option. It's not really recommended for LOs under 6 months - can't remember why but Summer Rain knows all about it - maybe she'll see this? Also, if your LO is dairy intolerant it's also fairly likely that he'll be sensitive to soya as well. Holly has cows milk protein intolerance (which is far more common that true lactose intolerance), she is prescribed a hypoallergenic formula. I would have thought that if regular formula doesn't suit, then a formula such as aptamil pepti or C&G pepti junior might be a better bet (they're made from broken down cows milk so are easier to digest). If like my LO, that's no good either, only something like Neocate or Nutramigen AA would suit. Do you have the option of seeing another doctor? x x

You are becoming my fountain of knowledge Hun!! The doctor just mentioned soy formula. To be honest I think she's hoping that he wil, 'grow out of it' before she has to actually do anything about it!!!!

I did try hipp a few weeks ago - I wasn't keen but nappy brain doesn't allow me to remember why.

I did see a different doctor and he just said colic.......

I'm fighting a loosing battle arnt I!

Xx

Oh, it's so bloody annoying that so many doctors haven't got a clue when it comes to babies. I never realised how lucky we were until I came on BnB - so many people are having similar problems to you. CMPI and reflux are linked, they definitely were in Holly's case. Now she's on the right formula she doesn't need ranitidine anymore. We were back and forth to the doctor as she was prescribed Aptamil Pepti first and it didn't suit. I went back a few times before she was switched to Nutramigen AA. I think it was the cost implication more than anything else - a 400g tin is about 35 quid!! Don't really know what to suggest but I guess if your gp's not sure you could ask for a referral to a paediatrician. Oh, and you can buy the special formulas online, but they are silly expensive. Good luck, and keep on harrasing them lol x x
