Feeding advice

Okay so just need advice on feeding! My lo has cmpi and reflux and is now on nutramigen aa and also 2 sachets of gaviscon per feed (I have to make up 7-8oz per feed). She dropped 2 centiles around christmas but has now slowly put weight back on and is approx between 9th & 25th centile. Now she was having approx 5oz every 3-4 hours and when she had sttn she would have the whole 8oz on the morning and go back to the 5oz the rest of the day. The past few weeks (probably longer actually) she has been polishing off the 8oz bottles and has started wanting a feed sometimes before the 3 hours. She goes mental if I try to feed her just the 5oz and so if she is hungry I am not going to refuse her feed! I think 8oz is A LOT for a 4 month old baby and was wondering if this is even normal for her to want to drink so much?!! Any tips or advice is v.welcome!

My HV told me that a rule of thumb is that over the course of 24hours, your LO should be consuming around 2.5 times their body weight in ounces. So say your LO weighs 12lbs, then over the day should be taking in around 30oz. Hope this helps xx

Sounds silly but are you sure she is hungry and not tired? I used to feed my baby every 2 hours and she polished off 8-9 oz at the same age as your little one I later realised she was crying as she wanted to suck as she was tired. Consequently she became a big baby from all the feed! She also had reflux and was on gaviscon - she cried after feeds too as had pain after drinking.

xx

No deffo not tired as I know her tired signs down to a tee now (occasionally miss them which sets up for a bad time settling her) If her reflux is playing up she does sometimes reject the feed. It is quite under control now but if at 5ozs I take off her she goes mental until I give the bottle back and not even a dummy etc will settle her. She doesnt feed every 2 hours but can want a feed that often but generally is 3-4 hours. I was going to speak to hv about it today but baby clinic had been cancelled!!

She is approx 13lbs in weight I reckon and has approx 6 bottles a day. xx

My LO is 4 months and drinks five 8oz bottles a day. He weighs 17lb and is 91st centile now! My HV isn't concerned and says it is healthy weight gain, so I wouldn't worry at all. Your baby obviously needs and wants those feeds
