Sleeping through the night......

Hi,
Anyone got any tips on how to do this? LO feeds at 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm, 11pm (dream feed) then wakes up anywhere between 3am & 5am when i give him 2oz which settles him back down again.
I have been advised to drop the dream feed because as he is waking up about 4 hours later, i am encouraging him to do this by feeding him at 11pm when actually he might not want it.
Any thoughts? x

I would perhaps do a trial run, to see how he does without the dream feed - its just trial and error, some times things work and other times not so much. all you can do is try

He is 14 weeks old and feeding as follows:
7-8am - 4oz
11am - 6oz
3pm - 6oz
7pm - 6oz
11pm - 6oz (dream Feed)
3-5am - 2oz

So hes taking 30oz a day which is about right for his age, most of which is between 7am & 11pm its just those 2oz that he has at 3-5am.
Today i have put him on 7oz though as he has been on 6oz for ages and draining all of his bottles so today he has had:
3.30am - 2oz
7.15am - 4oz
11am - 7oz
3pm - 7oz
7pm - 7oz
He's been in bed asleep since 7:30pm so ill leave him now until he wakes up then ill give him a 7oz bottle and let him take as much as he wants.
Watching Eastenders then im off to bed to get an early night whilst i can seen as though im not staying up until 11pm to do that feed. xx

I'll be interested to see how you do. We're waking lo one for a feed at 10:30 and wondering whether this is the best thing to do in the long run.

Ok, so he was asleep in his cot by 7:30pm and didn't wake until 1:55am where he took a full bottle of 7oz. Went straight back to sleep after this and woke up at 6am. He wasn't hungry though and he didn't cry for his bottle until 7am so at least we are still on track for the day feeds as usual. Will let you know how I get on tonight. Fingers crossed with time, that 1:55am will get later & later everyday. I am going to stick with this way as he obviously didn't really want the 11pm feed I was giving him in his sleep. Xx

I've read that spacing the day time feeds closer together helps teach a baby to differentiate between night and day. I fed my LO every 3 to 3 1/2 hours at 14 weeks but he was already sleeping through the night at the time. But that's just one theory. It seems like what you're trying is working. Your LO may even drop his night time feed on his own. My LO just sleep through one night and then kept on doing it. He has led the way on every dropped feed.

If i tried to feed him during the day closer together he wouldnt take it - i have tried before but just isnt ready until 4 hours, sometime 4.5hours.
Ill keep trying what we started last night and he might just drop that other feed himself. I think becuase we have been encouraging to feed every 4 hours, even during the night that is what he is used too. Wish me luck!

my boy is 6 weeks old and i am basically demand feeding throughout the day, sometimes he will have 5oz, sometimes 4, and then shortly after he will have 2 or 3oz. and past 3/4 nights he is sleeping through from either 11pm or midnight until 7/8am. Wasn't expecting him to do this yet at all but i am not complaining, he seems to obviously be filling himself up more in the day and then isnt hungry throughout the night.

they'll soon sleep through when they are satisfied, he may just be a hungry baby!
