Both my girls have a cows milk protein allergy. Their symptoms were eczema, upset tummy, lots of gas, mucusy and sometimes bloody poops, and just being unhappy most of the time. My oldest grew lots but my youngest failed to gain weight appropriately.

With my oldest we were asked to try hypoallergenic formula first because soy is not recommended before 6 months. The protein in soy is similar to the protein in cows milk and many babies with cows milk allergies also have soy milk allergies. She had a bad reaction to the hypoallergenic so we put her on soy and she was fine after that. She grew out of it by 1.

My youngest we tried soy first because it worked for her sister but she had an allergic reaction to it and broke out in hives and screamed for hours. We switched her to nutramigen( the hypoallergenic formula) and she is doing a lot better and thriving.

I would talk to the pediatrician about nutramigen or alimentum first before going with soy as the allergy to soy in babies with cows milk allergies is so common and since its not recommended for other reasons before months.

Hope you get things sorted!

Be careful with soy. When I worked at the day care in the 1 year old room, we had a little girl that was given soy milk only and she was getting pubic hair! Since soy contains plant based estrogens it can kickstart puberty.

As pps said, be wary of soy. You will more likely be offered neocate or a similar formula which is gentle on tummies

If it's a true allergy then it's likely they'll be allergic to soy proteins as well. If it's an intolerance it may be fine.

Soy didn't work for us we ended up switching to nutramigen as she had true allergies.. BUT the soy DID IMPROVE her symptoms tremendously. If it weren't for blood in stools she would have stayed on it. x

What kind of formula is he on again???

yepppp Anna couldn't handly breastmilk... i realize now that i could have cut out all dairy and soy but that's not realistic in my case. i have a hard enough time eating!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh i envy all the moms that have no issues with feeding... some of us go through HELL and back. bf or ff.
