Aptamil Comfort milk? Anyone used it?

Hi ladies,

My lo is nearly 5 weeks and formula fed. She has been on SMA gold since age was 1 week old.

I've always struggled to bring her wind up more than I ever did with my other daughter. Also she can sometimes go up to 3 days without a poo. She never goes every day.

She seemed to be taking her feeds really well, drinking 3-4oz every 3-4 hours. She would usually bring up a little bit of milk afterwards but not enough to worry me. She also always gets hiccups after a feed, which then usually makes her bring up more.

Anyway the last few days have been really difficult when feeding her. She's started being really fussy on the bottle, sort of straining as she's taking it. She sort of spots the majority of the bottle out as soon as it goes in her mouth so although she may seem to get through 3oz or so the majority is actually soaked into the muslin cloth.

She's also brought up her entire bottle on more than one occasion. She has gone from taking 25oz a day to only 18-19oz a day. When I saw the hv on Wednesday she suggested we could possibly try switching milk.

So anyway today I've bought some aptamil comfort milk and new teats as I know it's thicker formula.

But now I'm worried about giving it to her as I've heard it should be given under medical advice? Plus I'm just worried in general about switching milk? I don't know why really, I guess just panicking that I'm switching from what I know and what I'm used to, I only ever gave my eldest SMA.

Any advice, any experience of using this milk would be great!

Thank you so much!

X

I changed from aptimil 1 to cow & gate comfort when he was 2 weeks. He was constipated, for 6 days, bad wind and had bad tummy pains.

Best decision we ever made.

He now poos so much better and its soft and no longer has pains. We also started infacol for the 2nd time as last time I thought it didnt work but tbh didnt give it long enough. Its been a week now and we can see the difference, loud burps in a much quicker time. He is settling a lot better xx

I used to express for LO but would give SMA Gold top ups. In the end I couldn't keep up so put her on SMA Gold exclusively. She didn't poo for 3 days and was straining and obviously distressed as she was used to going 8 times a day!

I couldn't reach the health visitor (took them 4 days to return my message!) so I just changed her onto Aptamil Comfort. I didn't even switch gradually as I was so desperate for her to be comfortable. She was so much better and is still drinking it now. We didn't change teats as she was always choking on SMA Gold. She choked less on Aptamil as it's thicker, therefore took less air in resulting in a happier baby. The health visitor eventually got back to me and said it was ok (thanks luv!!). We're still using the 2 hole (Avent) teats as the 3 hole teats are too hard for her and she gets into a state when I try to introduce them. Last time she cried so much she was sick all over me. She's 7 months old tomorrow but we'll stick with what we know
