I'm sorry I keep posting loads of questions but I really need more advice!!!

As I said I'm sorry I keep posting different questions but I'm new to introducing formula to my 6 month old and I keep coming across various obstacles!
I'm hoping to get LO on formula in the day and breastfeed morning and night.
To start off with he just wouldn't take a bottle, but after trying various milks and various bottles he will now take cow and gate stage 1 cartons from Avent bottles. In total he would usually have 6 breastfeeds in a 24 hour period and so far I'm trying to give two formula feeds during the day. He just won't take more than 2.5oz of milk at a time from the bottle and it seems to take him ages! I've got size 2 teats on the bottles which I think are 1 month+ ones so I'm wondering if that's why it takes him so long???
Do I need to be encouraging him to take bigger amounts of formula or do I just follow his lead? With being breastfed it's impossible for me to tell how much he gets at those feeds. He's always been a frequent breastfeeder, and will go around 2.5-3 hours between feeds so should I space them out more with formula?
Again I'm sorry for all the questions, it's just not been the smooth transition that I thought it would be! Ideally I want to be giving LO the powdered formula but I'm scared he won't drink it! Lol! Should it be the same as the cartons?
Any advice that anyone can offer me would be really appreciated!

You could try a variflow teat, as that would allow him to control the speed more? I think BF has quite a fast flow so in theory would need a faster flow teat too.

I would follow his lead, but remember that he should always have some left in the bottle when he's done - if he's draining the bottle then make it bigger to start with. Otherwise you won't know if he's finished because the bottle is empty or if he's finished because he's had enough. Just as a rule of thumb, my LO is 8 weeks and is now taking 6oz each feed. He normally goes between 2/3hrs between feeds although now he's getting older & is taking 6oz bottles sometimes he goes for 4hrs.

The cartons of ready-made are normally more syrupy and thicker than powdered so that could another reason he's being slower on the teat?

Are you weaning and, if so, are you TW or BLW Hon?

If TW then don't forget that it will make a difference to the amount of milk he takes ... BLW less so as they tend to swallow less in the early months.

The powdered formula tends also to be a bit 'thinner' than the cartons, so he might not be liking the consistency ... maybe trying him on powdered with a variflow teat might help

I think they recommend the slower teats for breastfed babies, but I'm not sure if that's only in the beginning or not. We switched over to the 3+ mo ones about a month ago and my girl is really eating a lot more at each feed because it's faster for her and she doesn't get as tired.

She still only takes 6 oz at a time because her little tummy just can't handle more. She feeds every 2.5-3 hours if not more frequently.

They are right about the powder being not quite as thick. I'm using concentrate (half formula/half water) for Breanna now and I think that's why she stopped spitting up - it's thicker.

I've never heard anyone mention it other than me!

I know that a lot of people don't like it because it is more difficult to prepare if you are out and about, but we always just make up her bottle and take it with us. It's considered sterile just like ready to feed is.
