ok here goes...

before we go to bed at night i put approx 1litre of water in the kettle and leave this to boil. then when ds is demanding feeding, turn kettle on and count to 10 this warms the water without reboiling (which is not recommended). the water is then warm enough to mix his feed and doedn't need any further heating or cooling.

it does however take some practice for the amount of milk that you require but you get into the flow. this way i can have a bottle ready to drink within 20 sec of reaching kitchen. (3 storey town house!)

I used to have a flask oh boiling water at side of my bed plus a bottle of cooled boiled water.

Baby wakes - add powder to bottle and 50% boiling water. Swill round. Top up remaining 50% with cooled boiled water. And leg it to baby's room!

Ready made cartons also v helpful x

I have been making an extra 2 bottles on the last fed before bedtime, cooling them under the tap quickly and putting them in the fridge. I know it's not recommended but all my nephews and nieces have been fed this way with no problems in the past. DH goes down the reheat n a jug of boiling water as I change Sam's nappy and by the time i'm finished the bottle is at the right temp.

I've found if i'm not quick enough feeding Sam after he wakes he doesn't take the bottle well and ends up with bad wind, he tries to guzzle the first few ml as if he's never been fed!!

I make up the bottle before I go to bed and put it in an Tommee Tippee insulated bottle carrier, so when LO wakes as long as its 3-5hours later the bottle will be at perfect temperature.

I also make bottles up once a day and leave them in the fridge and then heat them in the microwave and I've never had any problems, it has only been recently that the advice about making up bottles in advance has changed.

see thats what scared me when my mom made some feeds up and whacked them in the fridge, the tins say 'use within two hours' so i end up wasting a fair bit....why do they say this? is it a bacteria problem? or another thing they say to waste alot and get more money out of us

nothe 2 hour rule is, as far as i've worked out, something after 2hours the milk will start to go off, in the same way that normal milk goes off if left out for too long. basically you'd taste the difference in the milk.

Wow there are so many ideas here and it's nice to see that people do make up their own minds and do as they see fit regardless of formula box scare tactics haha. I stopped putting my bottles of water in the fridge because I was putting boiled water into bottles then putting them in the fridge then warming them back up and I suddenly couldn't think what benefit putting the water in the fridge was, it wasn't as if it was mixed formula, it was simply water. My HV said it was stupid to cool down to warm back up again. Everyone from the generation above mine keeps telling me it never did any harm to make up all the bottles at once and I admit it is very tempting.

My mom used to make up all the formula she would need for the day/night during one of my naps, she would keep in fridge and warm what she needed in the microwave. I am lucky my son will take a room temp bottle so I just a bottle at the time I need it, like I said in previous post I use nursery water. But everyone has their own way and each baby likes formula a certain way, just like each baby that breastfeeds like to eat a certain way. So just follow your baby he will tell you what he likes.

I thought I had it...I made up all the bottles at once and put them in the fridge (I thought ah sod it if it was good enough in the olden days it's good enough now) then realised that when we went to bed I couldn't take them with me and would still have to come down to the fridge and warm it up every 3 hours so I went back to just filling the bottles with water and taking them up but then I remembered it has to be a certain temp to mix the powder in so I would still have to come down and use the kettle - unless I can run the tap hot enough to warm it in... *sigh* short of taking a mini fridge and kettle to bed with me I think I just have to accept he's gonna scream in the time it takes me to scrabble around and get ready bumbling about it the dark with my eyes half shut lol. Thanks for all the advice x
