we use a tin a week and i don't think there's a best to be honest.
different formulas affect babies differently. what works for one might not work for another.

with my son we used apatamil - ended up on apatamil comfort.
we're using cow and gate this time and have had no issues.

Cow & Gate here and no issues whatsoever. You will probably go through a tub a week to begin with. My LO is a big drinker and we go through a tub every 5 days.

All UK formulas have roughly the same basic ingredients and any additional ones; are not medically necessary though all the companies make various health claims about their product in order to market them. You can use any formula on sale in the UK and be assured it is nutritionally complete for your baby and will be giving them all the nutrients needed for healthy growth and development. My eldest was so horribly sick on aptamil when he was in special care that he nearly choked, we now know he had reflux and the larger quantities of fish oils in aptamil can cause problems for some reflux babies, so with my other son who was FF we never even tried him on aptamil anything xx

Summer rain I dont know if you have any knowledge about this but I thought I would ask you anyway! We are considering using Hipp formula with the next baby as I wanted to use it forst time round, but they didnt do the little hospital bottles of it, well now they do! Anyway, Hipp is the only UK formula not to contain nucleotides. I researched a bit about nucleotides and they seep to be very improtant and have been added to all japanese formula since the 70s, so I was wondering do you think a baby would be losing out if they were given a formula not containing nucleotides? xx

No they wouldn't be losing out, nucleotides from my understanding are produced in the body from other nutrients and infant formula based on cows milk does contain some naturally, the benefits of adding them artificially are debatable, in most countries nucleotides have only been added to formula pretty recently and a lot of formulas on sale in the US still don't contain them. From what I have read studies have shown weight gain and head growth is faster in the first few weeks for those babies fed a nucleotide fortified formula but it isn't known yet if this means greater cognitive ability in those babies. If nucleotides were absolutely essential I believe the government would make it law that they must be in the formula Xx
