avent teats, are mine all faulty?!

Hi ladies...

I switched to ff from bf over the last few days.. DD is 10 days old. I am using avent bottles with size 1 teats.. The slowest they do?

When I tip the bottle to test the temp, they jet spray across the room! And she chokes on it sometimes. And she drinks an oz every 20 seconds!!

Is this normal and has anyone else found they are too fast? Are there any slower flow teats I can use with avent bottles?

Thanks xxx

I used NUK bottles in the first weeks as I had the same problem. The hole is on the upper side of the teat so the milk hits the roof of the mouth first and then goes down the back of the throat and he loved them Someone did once tell me you can use them with avent bottles but I never tested it?

i use size 1, i only find my spray across the room when the formula is way too hot, if its too cold its really hard to shake out, if yours are doing it willy nilly i'd assume they're abit funky, maybe you could ask for an exchange? xx

I usually find the teats spray when i've just heated the bottle. My LO also used to choke on the newborn teats. Still does on the one month plus teats at 8 months old! That's even with comfort milk which is thicker. She's much better at dealing with it now though

My playtex ventAires do the same thing when they get warm, but LO still takes 15-20 minutes to drink 2 ounces I figure it's fine anyway as my boob does the same thing..

We used Avent with our older son without any problems. I had saved all the bottles and got them out for our new baby. We had the same problem you are talking about with the #1 teats having too fast of a flow. We swithed to Dr. Brown's.
