Maybe a very touchy subject...

Well I've tried google and looking around etc but I can't find the answer anywhere, there seems to be no talk about it which is why I'm confused - not sure I should post about it here - so if you think I should delete this thread just say and I will but;

Why don't the fathers of pregnant teenagers (under 16) get done for statutory rape? And what's the point of sex being illegal under 16 (in the UK) if nothing is done when it happens? They might as well just lift the law on it.

It seems silly to be arresting 14-year-olds that send naked pictures of themselves online for distributing child pornography but then not doing anything about what I mentioned above.

I'm not passing judgement - just interested as it seems to be a taboo subject.

Update on Page 2:

"With all this being said then - all the reasons why it's ok for children to have sex illegally, do people think the legal age should be brought down then?

Seems like it would make more sense to bring it down to 13 - so that when kids do have sex illegally - something is actually done. If nothing is thought bad of kids having sex between the ages of 14-16 - then really, should the legal age be that high?

Spain's legal age is 13 and I've just read this on Wiki:

Quote:
In some countries, such as Italy and Spain, the low rate of adolescent pregnancy (6 births per 1,000 women aged 15–19 in 2002 in both countries [3]) may be attributed to traditional values and social stigmatization. These two countries also have low abortion rates (lower than Sweden and the other Nordic countries[7]) and their teenage pregnancy rates are among the lowest in Europe.

They don't get charged probably because the parents of the pregnant teenager and/or the pregnant teenager does not report it. Afterall, would you report it if your daughter was pregnant by someone older than 16...perhaps the guy is 17 or 18? I am not sure I would only because, and depending on the age of my daughter if this happened, was old enough to understand what sex was and the potential pregnancy that could happen.

Honestly, it's enough that a baby will change a teenagers life, so why add more to it by charging the father?

With that said, who knows how many fathers have been charged as it wouldn't be made public either.

I thought it wouldn't matter how old the guy is? If the girl is 15 - it's stat rape (though I could be wrong)

And that's why I was interested - because you just never hear about it, was wondering if it actually happens.

Just thought to add actually - that whilst I think you're right in that the parents wouldn't report the father - what happens at school? Surely it would be a teachers duty to report when one of their students have commited an illegal act.

usually because it is in no one's best interests, instead of raising his trial he would be in jail.

That's true - but then the law would have to be changed:

Sex under 16 is illegal unless you get the girl pregnant.

if you look on wiki there's a section on statutory rape, i looked a while back cos i wanted to know if it was still classes as statutory rape if the girl was the older one (out of curiosity). if the guy's a lot older, occasionally they do take it further (only if the paarents press charges i think). if they're close in age thet dont bother, more trouble than its worth.
