im sorry i will probably get jumped on for saying this but anyone who has a pitbull must be mad. i dont care what people say about them being a family pet, they are very dangerous dogs and should be destroyed. i wouldnt let my child within an inch of 1!

Just watched the report on the news. Tragic and illogical now. It's happened too many times for people not to be wary. Poor poor child and although my heart goes out to his family who now have to grieve for him instead of watch him grow up, somebody was responsible for this dog and for the child.

i really dont get how this keep happening i mean my puppy lives in the garden and kitchen. we have a stair gate stopping her getting into the living room and kyles got his pen he can go into if she is in the living room. and at teh first sign of agreesion (sp??) i would get the puppy/dog to a pro to try and fix the issues and if she cannot be helped then bye bye goes the dog.dont see why other people dont do this

Oh just to add she does have a HUGE kennel in the garden i can get in it with plenty of room lol before anyone thinks i shut her out in the rain all day ect lol

I will say (again) that the top breed for dog bites is Labrador Retrievers. NOT pit bulls. Pitbulls get the media attention because they're more of a bully breed. The article itself is very nebulous when it comes to details. Why was a 3 year old up at 12:24am? Who was the 64 year old woman?

It is very sad, but I still hate how the media pigeonholes "pit bull TYPES" as mad, savagae attackers. Seriously, if Labrador Retrievers are the leading animal for biting, where are all the media sensations about that? Its biased and made for the sole purpose of freaking out the general public and hopefully adding to the already bad name that Pit Bulls have.

i think its because in england 2 chidren have been mauled to death by these dogs, and the first little girl wasnt just attacked, her poor little body has destroyed by this dog!

where this latest attack happened i used to live not far from there and there are so many lads hanging around with these dogs, they ripped a cat to bits not long ago (not sure if thats in the sun article i havent read it).

sorry but we have never heard of a labrador mauling a child to death

First things I thought.

A terrible, awful tragedy that more than likely could have been avoided

Well, I have a "pitbull" and I'm far from mad. There is NO breed called a pitbull, that is a classification of over 20 different breeds and mixes. I have an American Pitbull Terrier, which I highly doubt is what this dog was. APBTs and pitbull type dogs make up of 1.85 % of all dog bites and deaths. German Shepards, Labs, and Chow Chows, bite and maul far more than a pitbull type dog does. APBTs are actually called the nanny dog because they are breed to be people friendly, unlike most breeds which are bred to be protective which makes them not people friendly. In many studies it shows that ABPTs and Rottweilers are the best family dogs becasue of their gentleness towards humans and especially children. 99% of reported pitbull bites and deaths are NOT from APBTs or pitbull types. I saw in the paper last year about a pitbull death, and it was actually a Siberean Husky. There was another pitbull death in the paper and it was a cross between lab and doberman, but they call it a pitbull. One of the most dangerous breeds is actually a Dalmation, not a pitbull. There is also no such thing as a pitbull has a different brain, like media likes to say all the time. Pitbulls don't have a locking jaw either, like the media tries to say constantly. I think all of this has gotten way out of hand, and people need to educate themselves on breeds of dogs instead of listening to what the media has said. In this article alone it says pitbull type, not APBT. For all we know it could be a lab. Here are a few websites of facts and myths on pitbulls. I know most of you won't care, but I'll put it out there anyways. I'm very passionate about this as I have a APBT, and before I became a SAHM and student Midwife I actually went to college for Veterinary Medicine and specializing in canines. Anyways, here is the website-

http://www.atts.org/stats1.html - This website shows that the APBT has a 85.3% temperment rating, a bearded collie only has a 53.3%

http://www.lawdogsusa.org/gallery.html - This website is a Law Enforcement group in USA who only uses APBTs as police dogs. They have facts and myths on their page

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/americanpitbull.htm - Here is the breeds information

For the child who was attacked, that is so sad and my heart goes out to the family
