My friend was looking at buying a house they kept going back and forward with her and her OH and not getting back to her, she kept having to call them to find out what was happening and they would say they would call back and didnt. Turned out one of the other estate agents there wanted to buy it too. So they were essentially blocking other prospective buyers so the other agent had time to get everything sorted so they could buy it themselves.

I'd say I haven't met a profession that lies more, lol (I am sure there are exceptions). I don't think they would be eager to lie on paper though. If they have written a letter its more likely to be true.

So yeah the short answer in my own experience is yes they do! She's now trying to backtrack but she said the exact thing to me and my husband so she's a liar. There's no way it could be misinterpreted. Don't know what to do now but will definitely be complaining

Yep complain. Really regret we didn't but I'd got a newborn at the time and it was too much hassle

Yes definately complain! I don't see the point in lying as you will always get caught in the lie! It's easier for us just to tell the truth then everyone knows where they stand!

They should be a member of an Ombudsman that you can complain too but you will need to put in a complain to the manager first, if their response is not satisfactory then go to the ombudsman.

They are still trying to say we misunderstood which is just such bollocks, I know what I heard and so does hubby. It has gone to sealed bids so I have put a bid in that I feel comfortable with and a short explanation of why we feel we should get the house! We have been gazumped by the other couple basically. I'm too nice to do that to people!

People in the village I live in were lied to by the estate agent saying their view onto the open countryside would never be interrupted, sure enough planning permission for 160+ houses there has just been submitted. They could never say that land couldnt be built on, it was a complete lie, a big selling point to the house that is now most likely going to lose its value. (Have to say I wouldn't have listened to the agent on that matter myself, but I can understand the people's disappointment).

Hmm i worked at an estate agent for 2 years and things like offers couldnt be lied about (although i couldnt tell someone what the other person offered) but at points the truth was stretched.

Eg. I have viewers asking why the house wasnt selling, was it worth viewing? And id make something up about the owners being unlucky when i knew the real reason. We are trying to sell the owners house and they are paying us to do that so we would basically tell people what they wanted to hear to get them through the front door then they could mayne fall in love with it or realise the flaws.

Anyway i never actually lied and legal things you cant lie about anyway but id say some people will say what you want to hear and exaggerate viewings so you will act quicker etc.
