female sterilisation

Has anyone ever had it done? Was it straight forward to get it done on the NHS? I am considering it as I am totally done having kids now.

I haven't had it done - but I think the NHS usually prefer the man to get it done, just because it's an invasive procedure for women where as men it's in and out xxxx

You need to attend your GP and they will refer you
Be ware you may need to stand firm on your decision as some GPs won't even refer until certain amount of months post partum or due to age if you do face these challenges but your 100% sure you can ask your HV for support in getting your referral. Good luck xx

It is surgery rather than an outpatient which is why they prefer men to do it, you can be in hospital for a good number of days afterwards and can take a while to recover afterwards so not something to enter lightly. The criteria for eligibility will vary from place to place but most if not all will have a waiting period post partum.

Thanks for your input.

DH reluctantly agreed to vasectomy a while ago but has been dragging his heels about it. That's why I've been considering it myself.

You are out of hospital the same day foe sterilisation, its only a laparoscopy which is a very quick procedure under general anaesthetic and I've had the same procedure before for something else so i know its not too bad.

One of us will be getting it done and i don't mind which of us it is as long as we don't have another baby lol.

Really? I didn't know you could it that fast, my gp said it involves a 3 day stay in hospital usually, then again when I had ovarian drilling I nearly stayed overnight because I always react badly to anesthetic but it's good your body responds so well. This probably sounds silly but maybe you could go both go on the waiting list and whoever gets called up first does it?

Yes laparoscopy is minor surgery x

Well it is irrelevant now anyway because I've just picked up a fresh referral from the doctors for DH's vasectomy and booked him an appointment at the hospital. No excuse now lol.
