Spiders - help!

I'm terriefied of spiders. We have got an infrared deterrent which stopped the spiders for around two years, but it seems to be ineffective all of a sudden.

We have been finding literally a spider per day minimum.

Anyone got any ideas about what is causing them? Or how to prevent them? Is it possible my infrared thing has stopped working? it still lights up!

We used to have LOADS in our house! We sprayed around the outside/ sills of our windows with peppermint oil and water (heavy on the peppermint ) don't know if it's just coincidence but I haven't seen any in a while... I've heard white vinegar and water works too!

My husband used to have a fear like yours. One day my husband refused to pick up our baby from the garden because he thought a spider went on the baby. After that I booked him in for CBT via the NHS and he has been much better since. Still afraid but able to catch and put out a spider.
By all means there's no harm 'spider proofing' the house but if your fear is affecting your life then I would really recommend CBT.

Eeek, my first thought was "burn the house down" but I guess that's not a sustainable solution... I would probably buy a new infra red device in case its just stopped working, since it worked for you before. Conkers and citronella oil are supposed to be good at deterring spiders but I haven't tried them myself.
