Do you donate to go fund me pages?

Iv just come across one on facebook of somebody I don't know and I'm going to donate to her because its a topic close to my own heart (egg freezing) and it made me think.

What makes strangers donate to other people on these go fund me pages?

Many things, I am sure. Either someone they know or a reason that is close to their heart.

I do not donate, because I do not have any money to spare. If I did, I might donate to something I believe in.

I am not sure if there is a way you can find out if it's real or fake .

We have donated a few times to these appeals. We donate to appeals close to our hearts. It's usually to help sick children to fulfill their dreams .

Nope. Too many of these pages around and too many scam artists out there.

I have when it's been family/friends of family as I know it's legit. Otherwise I'd rather go through a charity close to my heart (of which there are a few).

No, I don't. I would if it was someone I knew, or a friend of a friend type thing so I knew it was legit, and then only if it was something I wanted to support.

I have donated a few times, but only if it's opened or shared by someone I know.

I have on occasion in certain situations - one was to a family who had lost both their parents and friends were raising money to allow the kids (ranging in age from early 20s to around 10) to pay off the mortgage and stay in the house so the older ones could be the guardians of the younger ones. The mum who passed away was a friend of a friend, so it was legit. I don't do it for frivolous things (like someone wants a holiday) or for many medical things. I have lots of American friends who are super anti-universal health care and very conservative and have all these crazy ideas about how they don't want their tax money paying for anyone else's health care....but then suddenly, they want help paying for their knee surgery that their insurance won't cover. I don't support those sorts of people. But certain circumstances, when I really felt it was genuine and something I was moved by, yes.
