just tell them you didnt think to look at the address as afterall the mail which usually comes through the letter box is for you so you just opened it without thinking and say it was only when you got half way down the letter you realised it wasnt for you

the address no longer causes you to be blacklisted they changed the law a year or so ago the only way you will be getting bad credit from the people who lived there prior to you is because they may have not told a creditor they have moved
Thats good to know thanks

I'm the same. I've recieved letters right left and center for the previous occupants. Most I didn't open, simply binned but a few urgent ones I opened. The most recent one is some debt company threatening baliffs for an unpaid DVLA thing. So I thought I'd phone and say they're no longer here but the person I spoke to was an absolute boot and told me that unless I send in my council tax bill they'd keep sending letters

I worried about this at first but in the end decided sod it its coming tomy address and I need to open it to deal with it and no one has ever questioned why iv opened it.
If the mail was addressed to the owner of the property and you where just renting it then that would be different as its still their property that you are opening but with old tennents thats not realy any comeback from things like that.

Funny enough this was the most recent one we got as well
I decided not to worry about this one as it ammused me the idea of them getting thier car towed for non payment

Okay I am going to ring them up I think, as I am about to have my second baby I don't want them turning up at this time. Have heard mixed views on ringing up some people say they are rude and some say they just leave you alone.
I am really just so pissed off that people f-off and leave you to deal with their shite!
My neighbour still speaks to the previous people, was going to ask for either a forwarding address or her to question her about these debts but then I don't want to start any crap between them.

TBH if there is still someone with contact with them then it probably is best to not get yourself involved and just stick the letter back in the post with no longer at this address.
We only delt with it by phoning them up because it was things like inland revenue and a business under our address which couldnt be ignored.
If its just general debt collecters your more likely to flag yourself as someone thats paying it attention at that address and a possible way for them to still recover the debt.
Do you own the property or rent? if you rent from a housing association pass the letters onto them thats what we started to do and they sent out etter to say we are new tennents and to stop bothering us.

That happened to us - I was fed up with the constant letters, and I opened one and rang up and I had a right bollocking telling me it was illegal to open other peoples post.

I wouldnt ring, just send them back as 'not known at this address'

x
