Major Concern! Help and Advice?

This is my first pregnancy. I was told by the doctor that i was around 8 weeks. I then had a bleed and went to hospital to get checked out. They then referred me to the Early Pregnancy Unit where i had a scan yesterday.. they saw the sac but there was nothing in it.. not even the yolk sac. They said that I am either at the very very early stages so its not developed yet or it is a miscarriage. I am going back for another scan to find out next tuesday. In the mean time i have had a lot of brown stringy discharge along with the odd bit of bleeding. I am wondering if anyone has been through the same thing? because i could do with some feedback and advice rather than the doctor telling me its 50/50 chance.....???

Thanks

Try not to worry just yet, it's easy to be out by upto 4 weeks so early. How did the doctor decide you were 8 weeks? did they go off your last period date. do you have regular cycles and do you know how long they are? All of these things could make the dates be out at this stage. I had stringy bits too after an internal exam and to be honest, i think it was more the prodding around that they did than anything else.

Mine wasn't such a happy story unfortunately as they did find out it hadn't grown at the 12 week scan but it would have meant I was 7 weeks out with my dates so I knew it was MC.

Thanks for your advice.

Its funny you say that actually. Because my periods are really irregular and the hospital said it was pretty impossible for the doctor to know that i was 8 weeks going by my dates so i dont actually know how far i am.

The bleeding and discharge did get alot worse after the internal scan yesterday...like you said with yours

I am sorry to hear about your experience hun

They told me that a lot changes in a week, although if you are really really early they might ask you to go back again after Tues to triple check what's going on. I think generally they do 2 more scans before confirming anything one way or the other.

I have read lots of other people on here with similar stories to yours and things have been fine when they have gone back, even after the 2nd time. It's a waiting game at the minute hun but I really wouldn't read too much into the doctors 8 weeks if you know yourself you're irregular. There's also loads of people here who will tell you just how crap the doctor's advice has been. x

Claire if your periods were irregular anyway then they will just be going by medical dates, the have no idea what gestation you are and will only be able to accuratley tell by a later scan. So please don't lose faith hun
