steroid injections

i'm being admitted to the hospital for long term care on monday. while i'm there i'll be getting the steroid injections for LO's lungs. I heard they are not pleasant for mommy at all. how were they for you? did you get just the single dose (2 shots 24hrs apart) or multiple doses (repeat until birth)?

i had just the two injections, yes they are painful, but try and relax whenthey give them u, they hurt less then! It def stinges for a few minutes, but i didnt think they were that bad. Suppose i was worrying about my little one more than myself.
Hope everything goes ok for u. Iv got my fingers crossed. even if they deliver near 30 weeks, babies can do well. My little boy is just small, he has no problems from being prem xxx

I had the two 24 hours apart. I was so sick I honestly didn't have any effects from them at all. Other than the inital poke in the bum.

I had them with my last pregnancy--almost 13 years ago. I don't remember them being particularly terrible, but I was already doing injections of heparin, so maybe I was accustomed to jabs.

I received multiple rounds from 24-29 weeks (baby was born at 29 weeks). It is my understanding that current guidelines recommend only ONE round of shots, regardless of when baby makes his/her appearance. Personally, I feel multiple shots did effect my kids growth and development....but 13 years ago, there were really no guidelines regarding multiple shots.

Best wishes to you and your little one .

Tracy

I had them with my last pregnancy. I was on bed rest from 20 weeks on, then admitted to the hospital for long term pretty much until he came. (he came at 36 weeks). Anyway, when I had them, they were 12 hours apart because they thought he was coming right then. I had one in one butt cheek, and one in the other. I thought it felt like a hornet stinging me. They didn't tell me it was going to hurt so the first time I was a little caught off guard. I held my breath for the second one and it wasn't so bad.

The side effects I had was that I was super hungry, and I gained a lot of weight in the hospital. Total weight gain was abotu 60 pounds but I'm not sure if it was just from that or from being on bed rest and fluids for so long. I lost it all in 4 months with nursing.

I had them with my last pregnancy, and now this one.. they didn't hurt me, at all. But then again I have been on progesterone injections once a week and those are extremely painful, so for me the steroid shots were a piece of cake.

Hey hon,

Just echoing what everyone else has said. They stung for a few seconds and then it was fine.

I had 2 doses 12 hours apart. Xxx

Thank you ladies for your responses. I finished the injections a few days ago. The shot itself wasn't bad at all... didn't even feel them actually. It was the intense stinging/aching a few seconds after the steroid was injected that really sucked. I will do anything for this baby tho!
