Okay, so I initially thought that I would be 11 weeks Thursday, but due to a tad bit of spotting (very light) I went to the hospital because of course it freaked me out. So while being checked they perform my first ultrasound. The technician said that I couldn't be as far along as I thought because she didn't see anything except for an gestational sac, so she said I measured to be about 6 to 6 1/2 weeks. I was confused and hurt all at the same time. Of course they tell me that I'm not as far along as I think I am or the baby isn't growing like he/she should. They give me my Hcg level and it was 31,000. I went to the doctor yesterday to see if any changes could be seen in my 2nd ultrasound and again there was nothing ! Just a gestational sac and yolk sac. She then told me that my levels were to high and she should definitely see something by now then she said basically I should abort or wait to miscarry or wait a couple of more weeks to see if anything shows up. I will find out if my Hcg level doubled Monday. I don't know what to do.. I just wanted to know if anybody else has had this problem and what was the outcome ?

So sorry hun. It sounds like a blighted ovum, where the baby never develops but hcg still increases. I hope you get some answers

I'm going through something similar. OB thinks I should be 7 weeks, as my Ultrasound (U/S) two weeks ago showed I was 5weeks1day (but this scan shows I'm 5w6d). I could see a fetal pole during the latest scan. But because there was no heartbeat my OB thinks this is a 'threatened miscarriage'. I go for a follow up blood test Wed 8 Feb and U/S Thur 9 Feb. I'm still hopeful as I think it's too early to know anything for sure.

Whatever the outcome I'm going to get a second opinion. I think you should do the same.

I have to agree it sounds like it could be a blighted ovum this pregnancy started as a twin pregnancy but one baby never developed past the gestational sac + yolk sac stage as a blighted ovum. With a blighted ovum your body often still thinks you are pregnant so continues to make HCG which of course gives you all the pregnancy symptoms. I'm sorry you are going through this.

Hi hun, I am sorry to say that this happened to me and at 10/11 wks I began to naturally miscarry, it too began with spotting for a week before the actual miscarriage. I had a very early scan at 6wks which showed sac and very slow-growing embryo with a fleeting hb. It never progressed beyond that but my body took weeks to begin the process of rejection. Sorry darlin', it isn't a nice experience and comes as a shock
