To any ladies with a bicornuate uterus

I'm here to hopefully give you a little hope.

At 16 I had a massive ovarian cyst and smaller cyst on my other ovary, in fact they were so big I looked ready to give birth. When it came to having these removed because of the size of the larger cyst an ovary and tube had to be removed with an incision from bra to bikini line, it was during this operation the surgeon discovered I have a bicornuate uterus. At my first follow up appointment I was told if I wanted kids to get trying, hardly the advice to tell a single 16 year old but it was the advice given. Over the next few appointments I was told my fertility was non existant and that I'd never have kids.
Last January I fell pregnant, it was a massive shock after going through so much trying to come to terms with never being a mum but it was an amazing situation to be in. Only, medical professionals weren't as happy as me. I was told that because of my bicornuate uterus if I didn't miscarry in my first trimester I almost deffinately would in the second and if by some chance I got to v day my baby would be born too early to survive. There was no hope in their eyes and I was asked if I wanted the pregnancy to continue. Doing anything but continue was never an option in my eyes, yes if I lost my baby it would be horrific but so would the never knowing and I'm so glad I did. At 38+5 my daughter was born and only due to induction I'm sure she'd of stayed put till over 40 weeks.
So here I am now an extatic 23 year old with a gorgeous 5 month old. Yes It was scary and yes I had a few bleeds that made me think my dream of being a mum was over but it was all so so worth it.

So please ladies don't give up that hope

xx

thank you!! I've got a bu too but my dr's have never seemed too phased by it. There are lots of positive stories about women with bu (I've done a LOT of googling) but it's always nice to hear one more! x

Lau, what is it with these ignorant horrible doctors that presume they know everything and can tell young women they will never have kids?????
When i was 23 i was told the exact same thing and was given 0 chances of having kids.....I say F... you mister....i got pregnant on the first month of trying just when i turned 29...so then i was told the baby would definitely come early....F off again...i gave birth to my son at 38+4!
Yes i did go on to have 2 mcs that left me devastated and scared but i am currently 29+4 and so very hopeful and excited to have my baby girl in about 7.5 weeks when i ll have my stitch removed! SO YES...THERE IS HOPE...NEVER LET ANYONE SAY YOU CANT HAVE KIDS!
Thanks Lau, i always enjoy reading success bu stories!!!

Holymoly good luck with ttc, I hope it all goes well for you. I drove myself mad googling but never got the chance to speak to any success stories so was left feeling a bit deflated and didn't really take much hope from them as I seemed to have all these questions that couldn't be answered. x

Chistiana congrats on your son and your soon to be lil bundle. I know what you mean, it shocks me it was always said so unconcerned a bit like 'well you'll never have kids but oh well'. I was always told ivf would be pointless too coz my body was 'broken when it comes to fertility'. I worked on gynae/epau as a nurse and it used to frustrate me so much that the same attitudes were used with miscarriages too, doctors need to realise these are peoples hopes and dreams, their future and not just another case study x

Thanks Lau! Yes..i get that docs see mcs and complications day in and day out but for goodness sake...this is my baby, my dreams, my hopes...it wont harm you just to be a little more sensitive even if that is totally superficial. Anyway, enjoy your bundle too hun, there is nothing like the love of/for your baby!!

Holymoly- hey again hun..just another great success story for hold on to!xo
