fluid "on the lower side" 33 weeks

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with pregnancy-induced hypertension last week, so they did a growth exam. They noticed that my amniotic fluid is on the lower side. They wouldn't tell me the number but just said "closer to 5" (which I then learnt is the minimum for the normal range).

I am going back for another US this Wednesday. I've been drinking tons of water and laying on my left side. Besides that, i don't know if there is anything else I can do about it. I've also been making sure that I feel my baby move throughout the day (i get super paranoid if I don't).

I guess I was just looking for other women going through the same things, or people who want to share their stories.

My biggest fear is that something may go wrong without me noticing it =(

I was told at 25 weeks that I had "slightly reduced fluid" and "slightly reduced blood flow through the cord" but they monitored me closely and it sounds like they'll be monitoring you too, if you have another US in a couple of days. I think they will keep a close eye on you, and you're right to be aware of what movement you're feeling etc. Maybe talk to them on Wednesday about your fears - that's what I did, made a list and took it to the hospital with me!

My case was pretty extreme though, as I was developing pre-eclampsia at 25 weeks. Try not to worry too much - if they are at all concerned, they will act on it. xxx

I lost my daughter at 27 weeks. The 20 week US showed normal fluid levels. They did an US after she passed and showed VERY low levels. The one OB I went to thinks it may have been HEELP syndrome. I would make sure they keep a close eye on it.

My fluid was also on the lower side, was measured about 6 then 7, 8 and 10 at weekly scans I had over the past month or so. I also have pregnancy induced hypertension and taking meds for it which have also been increased every couple of weeks since being admitted at 28 weeks. While my BP is mostly under control and no pre-e signs have been seen, I am going to be induced this coming Saturday as my Obs doesn't want to put us at any further risk. All my scans for growth and things have been good, with bubs in the 40th percentile and the placenta working as it should.

It's hard not to worry, but so long as your Dr is keeping an eye on you, and you also look out for symptoms like reduced movement and things, you should be fine.

All the best xoxo

Amjon, I am really sorry.

They are keeping a close eye. I'm almost 34 weeks, so I think they will just induce me if they thing it's the best.

Again, I'm really sorry.

I had low fluid throughout my pregnancy after my waters originally broke at 14 weeks. At worst the fluid was 1.3cm at best it was 12cm but hovered around the 3cm mark for most of my pregnancy. Rest and drink plenty of fluid, I'm sure your LO is fine in there x
