There is no way I'm going to be able to read this whole thread so I guess I'll just jump right in where I can!

I've been a long-time natural birth hopeful for many years. After we got married, I assumed my husband and I would have no trouble getting pregnant. I learned about charting and other ways to ensure a speedy conception, but spent tons of time thinking about natural birth, and hypnobabies, and water birth, and cloth diapers, and baby wearing, and all these other things that I hoped we'd have a chance to do once we had children.

Unfortunately, it took us a long time to conceive and all those thoughts got pushed aside to make room for thoughts of infertility and surgeries and IVF and adoption. Then, at almost one year of trying exactly, after a few failed infertility treatments and just before a surgery to fix a lot of my reproductive issues that a fertility specialist found, we found out we were pregnant.

I'm only a few weeks in, and I still worried about jinxing things. But, I'm slowly starting to allow myself to plan for the future again. Having a natural birth is still really important to me, and despite so many things going wrong in our TTC journey, I'm really hoping for great things when it comes time to birth this long-awaited baby. Looking forward to meeting others, and learning as much as I can before next December!

Congratulations! Try not to think about jinxing things... writing here won't change what's going to happen... and the odds are, that's a healthy baby in December! Just take it one day at a time. I can identify with a 'bumpy' ride to conception - it took us 18 months/cycles - glad you got there in the end.

Congratulations on the birth of your little girl! Always love hearing of other homebirths. Sounds like things went really well. Your little girl was just 1oz lighter than mine (although I was 42+3 ). Reading your story takes me right back as it sounds very similar to my daughter's birth 2 years ago. Fab to read... thanks for sharing.

Had my booking appointment today... I had an inkling of this as I co-run a homebirth support group, but my (lovely and very pro-homebirth) midwife confirmed it... there were previously 5 midwives on call (from home) overnight for homebirths, but this has changed to just 2 based at the hospital. Covering the whole of South Derbyshire! And if one calls in sick, the homebirth service is suspended for the entire night. This has already happened several times since the changes came in in January. I feel a campaign coming on...
