We used the health in preghnancy grant to pay towards ours. The techniques learnt can be used in other potential areas of stress too.

It was definitely worth the money to me

I did the course and found it invaluable, but I agree, can be an expense. The Mary Mongam book underpinned the course, so it's worth getting to read as you'll have the same grounding and understanding of how best to prepare your mind and body for labour. Here is a link for amazon, some sellers apear to have this book in stock (with CD) for £4! Not bad! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hypnobirthin.../dp/0757302661

Read what you said about being unsure if you'll be permitted to have a VBAC. Just wanted to but in and say it is YOUR choice. Some dr's can be pushy to try and control the birth experience. These sites can offer advice and support http://vbac.org.uk http://childbirth.org/section/VBACindex.html http://ican-online.org

I know of a day course held in London that is £99 if that helps - could you use your HIP grant towards it?

If you want the details let me know

I did the class and found it very beneficial! It is worth checking to see if they have a sliding scale/if you can make some sort of arrangement. I was able to do my class for 1/2 price, as I made a deal with the instructor and traded some work. I know that many of the instructors are passionate about what they do, and are willing to work with you - maybe worth a try?
