Lesbian couple TTC, and full of questions!

Hi All! I'm Jackie and ttc via IUI with my partner, Anne Marie.

Today, I'm 14 DPO with my first attempt IUI using anon donor sperm on March 22 having used Clomid and Ovidrel to "stack the deck" per my fertility doc... but this is my first try and I'm going nuts on my tww!

I'm 36 and my partner and I have been together for 12 years, but this is the first time that life has allowed us to move forward with starting our family. Hopefully, through the marvels of modern medicine, it will happen quickly ... since, as my doctor put it I'm "getting a little bit older"... HA! - OLDER at 36??

I honestly had to look for a fertility vocabulary/abbreviation "key" to figure out the language ya'll were speaking when I found this site last night at midnight! I kept it up in a different window and kept referring to it to decipher everything~!

So, a doula friend of mine said it isn't going to do me any good to hpt before this Sunday, which would be 17 dpo, and Doc won't test until cycle day 34 (which would be Monday or Tuesday) if no af by then. (how am I doing with the new language?? HAHA!)... So, with all that in mind, I haven't taken even my first test yet and I'm about to pull my hair out... save only for the fact that I don't think I could pull off the bald-look. I know that conception rarely happens the first try at IUI, but I'm still super hopeful one minute, but then depressed and certain I'm not pregnant the next minute.

Maybe it is just wishful thinking, but my hunger the past three days has been nearly uncontrollable. Last night at midnight my tummy started growling and I couldn't fall asleep until after I got up and got something to eat. That is unlike me! And today, within an hour of my normal yogurt for breakfast my stomach was growling again to the point that the hunger was distracting me and I had to snack! If I *am* pregnant and this is how it is going to be for nine months, I had better strap a fridge into the back of my truck and hire a personal chef! GAH! If I'm not pregnant... well, then I better start hitting the gym to counteract all the snacks!

And the GAS! OMG! My poor spouse and dogs... though they have all gassed me out enough times that payback is long overdue Bahahaha! Again, hoping it is a "symptom" and not just my lactose intolerance kicking up!

So, I'm reading about so many women testing as early as 7-10 days. I've been afraid to, just because of suffering the disappointment of a BFN only to find out it was false. Do you all feel it is now "safe" to test at 14 DPO when using Clomid/Ovidrel? My understanding is that the meds nearly guarantee that the Luteal phase will be an exact 14 days, but I haven't researched that to find out if it is true. If so, shouldn't I get af today if BFN?

Gosh, I'm such a newbie at this... even though I'm OLD! LOL

Ok, I think I've typed your eyes out long enough. Good to meet you all and would love to hear from anyone!!

The long road to finding a great sperm donor

My partner and I searched high and low for a sperm donor as we didn't want to buy in sperm from a sperm bank. After a very long search we eventually found an amazing sperm donor at Co-ParentMatch He has not donated to anyone else before so he is just as excited as we are to find out that I am pregnant after our fourth try of home insemination.

So my message is if anyone is about to give up hope just keep going and it will work.

Sarah, we did go the route of sperm bank, but I didn't know that organizations existed that would help you find a donor a different way!

My partner has Danish ancestry so it was important that our donor be the same... so we could at least get some distant speck of her gene pool in there somewhere. We found our perfect donor two years ago and have been planning to use him since, until we found out about CMV. I am negative but the donor we had fawned over for all that time was positive, so after much research and long talks, we had to rule him out. We found another at the same place that we could "settle for" ... but when we went to buy their last 4 vials from that donor, they were unable to locate them anywhere. We were disappointed again!

We looked and looked for what seemed to be long time, but was really just several weeks and just four days before the scheduled IUI, we found a donor at Xytex that was NEARLY as perfect as our first choice and was CMV-. The bank bent over backwards and got the vials shipped to our doctor just in time!

Congrats to you and your honey on the pregnancy! That is most excellent!! I SOOO appreciate the good news... and the encouragement!!
