Difference between an epidural and spinal injection

Are these the same?

I declined an epidural during labour but when i went to theatre due to him being distressed they did an episiotomy and before doing it gave me a 'spinal injection' which numbed the whole area (I couldn't feel a thing, the pain dissapeared it was amazing lol)

Anyway I usually say yes when people ask if I had an epidural because I assumed they're the same but I've read otherwise? xx

I want to say.. don't quote me on this.. though that they are pretty much the same thing.
Maybe the difference is that an epidural the needle thing stays in your to keep supplying the medicine that makes you numb.

This spinal injection thing made it completely numb though..couldn't feel a thing, not the slightest pain or even a bit of pressure.. nothing. Whereas people who've had epis seem to say you can still feel a bit. xx
