What affects baby size?

I'm just wondering what affects how big or small the baby will be in your experience? Like if you had a smaller baby what do you think contributed to that and same for a bigger baby thanks x

i think it all depends on the individual mum, i have a cousin who is tiny and barely eats and her babies were both just over 5lbs, i eat more healthly and im heavier than her and mine were 8lb 7 and 7lb 3, so i think eating habits have something to do with it definatly. Also supposedly smoking can make babies smaller but again i smoke and my kids werent small. I honestly think it all depends on the woman, genes and lifestyle. I dont think there is anyway of knowing what size baby will be until your in your last few weeks and your mw might say what she thinks regarding weight xx

Eating lots of ice cream to combat heartburn? Certainly worked for me my babies were both 7lb 15oz at 38 and 39 weeks. I put on four stone both pregnancies.

Paige was 8lbs 14oz. I am 5ft 5, and I put on around 19lbs during my pregnancy. She was 12 days overdue, so she would have been a bit smaller on her duedate!

I was 8lbs 7oz at birth, and babys daddy was 10lbs 10oz, burt his mum is diabetic so that may have contributed.

I think alot of different things can factor in to how big your baby will be

I have smaller babies. Amelie was 6lb4 at 39w, Roman 7lb15 at 41+2 so would have been similar weights at the same gestations. They both follow the 25th centile now. I put 4st on with each but I was greedy and it went to my arse not baby!

Genetics would also play a part I imagine. My DH is quite tall and my babies have both been 97th + percentile for length. They've also weighted 8lb4oz (girl) and 9lb5oz (boy) so "big" by the numbers but proportionate with length.

well I'm not entirely sure but since I have gained a lot of weight my girl is bigger than average, not huge but she is going to be on the larger side.
My friend smoked throughout her pregnancy and was a very small lady and gave birth to a 6lb baby girl who was early so I think it had something to do with her smoking, pre pregnancy lifestyle?
My other friend took medication during her pregnancy and had small babies for their gestational ages well not small but both were under 7lbs and her first baby was 9lbs without meds although I'm on antidepressants and my girl is already 4lbs so yeah I think it depends on your overall health and weight before pregnancy and your birth weight as well as your DH's because chances are if you were a big baby you could be in for a big baby yourself

My Lo was 9lb 15oz, quite big but I was expecting him to be. My mum had big babies, so did most other female family members on my maternal side. they say that women often have similar pregnancies/labors/sied babies as their mothers.

I ate loads and craved sweet stuff like mad and didn't deny myself once so my Lo was fed on about 4000 calories a day which probably had something to do with it

No idea, I wish I knew. I'm 5ft 7 and a size 8/10 before my first pregnancy and after I had my son and my son was 9lb 7oz and my daughter 9lb 14oz! No idea why as big babies don't run in the family!!
