Chromosome Testing After Recurrent Miscarriage

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering id anyone has ever had the chromosome tests after recurrent miscarriages.

I suffered my 5th miscarriage in June and have been offered 3 tests - 2 which came back with no problems, Lupus and Cant remember the name of the other.

They have said this blood test ran on both me and my partner will be the last tests they can do, and if they come back with abnormalities there is nothing that can be done.

Has anyone else ever been through this before? Can anyone offer any advice on options which may be available if my tests do come back with problems?

If they donít does that mean just keep trying and going through the hell of losing more babies...

Its breaking my heart and putting me off trying, any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Sarah xxx

Fistly sorry for your losses.

As Tracie say's the is always PGD should something show.

I had 5 losses too and my old gyne (after the 4th) was like, it's bad luck blah blah blah. I changed consultants and my new one sent me to be tested for Uterine Natural Killer cells, low and behold this is my problem.

Don't let them fob you off.

Thanks for your responses ladies.

I been told today that i can be refered to Liverpool’s Recurrent Miscarriage Unit after these results if they dont show anything.

I hope they do and I hope they dont... Just so confusing!

Everyone keeps saying its all down to luck, but how unlucky can we be?

Il just have to wait for these results and then see where we stand...

What exactly are the two things mentioned above? Uterine Natural Killer cells and PGD?

I want to research things, but until i know the problem where do I start.

Also if I did get preganat in the mean time, is there tests they can run then and maybe things that could help me keep hold of a baby?

Thanks again ladies... :-)

S x

You shouldn't need to wait for your results with regards to Liverpool. It's a trial so your GP can refer you anytime. uNKC is what I was diagnoised with at Liverpool, here's the link:

PGD is where the embryo is tested for genetics prior to the IVF procedure (or something like that).

Hi Sarah
Firstly sorry to hear of your losses. I too have had 5 m/c and as MrsJD says you don't need to wait for results to be refered (why wait).
As Tracie says there is always pre genetic testing (PGD) which is the same as IVF but the eggs are tested before they are put back. I am having PGD at the moment after I was told I had something called a balanced translocation although they do PGD for lots of things. So there is always hope, dont give up & dont get fobbed off.

Hope this helps Sarah.

BTW i wouldnt try inbetween because if you are found to have a chromosome problem the chances of m/c are high

My hubby has an unbalanced translocation affecting some of his sperm. Was the last test docs did after 4 miscs. Was good to get an answer for possible cause of the miscs. PLEASE never give up . I have heard of PGD, never had it myself. We have had 13 pregnancies, 9 miscs BUT 4 lovely children as well. Good luck
