Period after mc.....

Is the first period following a miscarriage different to a regular period?

I had a natural mc 6 weeks ago. I was 12 weeks. I bled for around 3 weeks.
Then started bleeding again just over a week ago. It wasn't very heavy & I assumed this was my period so started taking my pill again as I don't feel ready to try again so soon. But this bleeding seemed so different to a period. Plus I only ever used to have 2 day periods.
I stopped bleeding so we dtd & things just don't feel right down below. And I've started bleeding again!

I know everyone is so different, but just wondered if others found that their period was so very different following a mc.
I just want things to return to normal & for bleeding to stop!

I haven't had a period yet and it was 4 weeks yesterday that I had my baby at 21+6. Gynaecologist said it could be as much as 6-8 weeks until I have one, so not to worry. She did say that the first one was likely to be heavier than usual though.

I'm sorry for your loss
My period returned about 5 weeks after d&c. It was heavy but not more than other cycles when I've had a heavy period. I did cramp more than usual. I've had 3 periods now since d&c and I've noticed that they're different than before. I never cramped prior to periods and now I do, pretty bad before and during. So things may be different than before and that's ok. My doctor told me that it would take anywhere from 4-8 weeks for a normal period to return. I wouldn't call it "normal" but it is a cycle again

I had to take misoprostol for a blighted ovum. Took 6 weeks for my period to come. My cramps were similar to before (moderate pain) but I did bleed for longer (6 days vs. 4 days before). And slightly heavier and bit different colour.

Not pleasant. I'm waiting to try for a while too. My mind needs a break!

My first period came 4 weeks after the MC and it was really different. For 6 days it was super heavy and I cramped worse than I normally do. After that I had light spotting without cramping for another 7 days after. I hope my next period will be somewhat back to normal.

I got my period almost 3 weeks after my D&C. I was 9 when the procedure was done.
It was like a normal period, light, hardly any cramps. I expected much worse.
This time around I hope it comes on time as well.

Thanks everyone for you're replies. And I'm sorry for your losses.

I guess it just confirms that there is no 'normal' return straight after. What is normal for one is very different for another.

It's getting on for 2 weeks now on this bleed & I'm just fed up with the bleeding now. I'm only used to the 2 days. Plus I leaked today whilst sat on a cream rug! So frustrating!

I know I just have to be patient. The body will heal & resume to it way in it own time.

Thanks again

After a m/c it does take your body a while for the hormones to level out and return to some semblance of normal. So your first period after a m/c could be very different from your normal ones pre-pregnancy. However if it continues on for too long you might want to contact your ob and see if there is any remaining tissue that could be causing issues.

So my period started today 36 days after the mc and 2 days before the funeral. Not great timing, but it had to come sooner or later.
