Missed Miscarriage

Hi - I'm new here, and hoping someone has similar experience to relate...

Its been 2 weeks since an ultrasound discovered no heartbeat (I went back a week later to confirm, and the fetal pole measured smaller, so this is a definite m/c, between 5 and 6 weeks). I still haven't had any bleeding or cramping. My doctor recommended against waiting more than 5 weeks to do anything (d&c or induce), due to an increased risk of complications to me after that point. I've scheduled a d&c for 2 weeks from now but am hoping to avoid it. I started investigating my cervix several days ago -- for a couple days it was in the super high, super soft stage, with "snotty" stretchy "pregnancy" mucus. Then a couple days ago it became lower, firmer, more creamy mucus (barely any of the snotty stuff). I was hoping that this means my body is getting with the program and preparing to complete the m/c, but now my cervix is high ans soft again... Does anyone have any relevant experience w/ the cervical changes?

Hey lovely

Sorry to hear your news.

I would personally stop checking your cervix, you will know when something is going to happen.

If you have any concerns, contact your doctor.

Thinking of you xxx

Hi

Hopefully things will start to happen and you can avoid the d&c; I went through something similar recently and though it was at a much later stage (actual gestation size and dates) I was in the same position. I would also advise stop checking your cervix; what I found was when things happened they did happen relatively quickly within hours. So checking your cervix now won't necessarily give you an indication of when or how things are going to happen.

Thank you for your responses. It is so strange, going from daily fearing seeing blood (in my previous pregnancy, I bled at around 5 and 8 weeks, before having my membranes rupture and m/c at 14 weeks), to desperately hoping to see blood. I know women have D&Cs all the time, I shouldn't be so freaked out about it.

Hi,
I was in the same position, went at 6.5 weks and told measured 5.5 weeks - knew my dates were right so expected the worst. Went back at 7.5 weeks and told even though gestational sac grown there was no hb and to expect to lose my baby!!! Had to wait until 10 weeks until i started bleeding, i was offered all options but always felt letting my body do what it should would let it return to it's normal cylce ASAP. Previous had a m/c 3 months earlier at 9 weeks and both were completely different but had no pressure from EPU , do what you think is best for you and don't be pressured into anything you don't wantxx

This is EXACTLY how I feel hun. It is such a heartbreaking and screwy change. I am in the same place now dealing with the same and I am wishing this goes quickly and peacefully for you sweetheart. Thinking of you

Your doctors didn't say anything about dangers if you wait more than 5 weeks?

I'm really sorry this is happening to you. I was told on Friday that I'd had a missed miscarriage so I'm waiting for everything to happen naturally too.

My missed miscarriage happened at 6 weeks and I was 9 weeks and 4 days on Friday so it's already been 3 and a half weeks and my next appointment is in 2 and a half weeks. The nurse didn't mention any problems waiting this long.

Sorry for everyone who is going through or has gone through this.

I wonder if its just the practice that I see - or that I'm in the U.S.? - that they told me 5 weeks was their recommended limit. The doctor kind of implied that it was more of a problem to wait longer when you're further along than I am; I didn't press the issue because I really was expecting it not to take that long (and I'm still hoping it won't). I've seen postings where it took 6 weeks - one woman said she waited 5 MONTHS... Anyone else wait it out more than 6 weeks?

With Thanksgiving coming up the week after the scheduled D&C, I'm going to be seeing all the in-laws - none of whom even know I was pregnant this time (besides my sister-in-law who I was discussing the swine flu vaccine with at the time, so it felt weird not to mention I was pregnant). So now I'm wondering, if nothing has happened by the scheduled D&C, will I go against the doctors recommendation, or just get it over with so I don't have to worry about hemorrhaging, cramping, freaking out, etc., with all the family activities.

I have to say, I'm glad I won't be getting together with my extended family this time - almost all of my cousins have toddlers and I think that would be a bit much right now.
