Please help me to understand

Hi all,
Firstly, I wanted to let you all know how much help you all have been. Many of the questions about my first trimester I have found on this site. Often times I join forums as a lurker because I never really have much to say but this time I need your help.
Last Monday I had my 12wk scan which was also my 1st doc apt because my job doesn't offer insurance. I felt so proud to when I saw my LO was so active and didn't want to sit still. I stared at my ultrasound pic for hours.
Everything seemed fine up until Friday night(I even still had ms on friday evening)when I noticed brown spotting when I wiped. I continued to check until Saturday morning and the the brown spotting was heavier when I wiped and decided to go to emergency. I was very impressed I was taken to a room and given an ultrasound within the first 10 mins I was there. The doctor stated that my LO's heart beat was strong and was moving fine. My blood work came fine and he examined my uterus and didnt say anything was wrong. He did say that since I was having brown spottng and it was considered a threatened abortion and to follow up with my doctor on Monday. Once I got home I began mild cramping throughout the day but the spotting has continued but has not turned red or gotten any heavier. Ladies, please help me to understand this. Has this happened to anyone and the pregnancy continued? Im soo scared that something is going to be wrong with my baby when I go to my doc tomorrow. I am no longer even feeling like I have ms anymore...

I know this is a very scary time for you but many many women do get spotting in first tri (and sometimes even throughout pregnancy) and it all turns out ok. The fact that they scanned you and saw your LO was fine after the spotting started is a very good sign. You probably don't have MS because you are so stressed about it.
You poor thing. Have hope and I have everything crossed you get happy news at the docs tomorrow.

You and your little bean may be just fine yet. The heartbeat is a great sign. The fact that your spotting is brown is also a good sign - brown blood is old blood, red blood is fresh and cause for more alarm. It's also not unusual to spot after an exam, because sometimes the cervix is really tender and touching it during the exam can cause a little spotting.

Please keep us posted on what your dr has to say tomorrow - we're all pulling for you!

Just because your spotting, it doesn't neceserilly mean it's over. I had a bleed when i was pregnant with my son at 17 weeks pregnant, and i thought it was all over. He turned out to be fine, and i went full term with him. I then got pregnant with twin boys and bled very very heavily, and passed many huge clots. Again, i thought my pregnancy was over but my babies fought on until 16 weeks. They died from something completely unrelated to the bleeding though, and if they hadn't of died from the TTTS they would have made it. This pregnancy i had a bright red bleed yet again at 8 weeks followed by some small clots. Everything has turned out OK, and i'm now 16 weeks pregnant. I just want to say all the best to you, and goodluck x

As the others have said, this can be a normal thing and doesn't necessarily mean you will loose your baby.

I'm sure they have given you lots of advice but I would say to try to stay rested and calm, take things easy, don't do anything that might put a strain on your uterus etc and not to have sex even after the bleeding has stopped. All the things that generally drive pregnant women mad when other people fuss are what I would recommend, don't do any heavy lifting or any physical exercise without getting it cleared by your doctor first.

Some women get a lot of spotting and bleeding and still continue their pregnancies to the end and have a healthy baby and I hope you are one of them.

I will be keeping you in my thoughts and hoping that all continues to be well with your little one.

I completely understand how worried you must be, but seeing LO doing so well after the spotting is a great sign! I had bleeding with my second pregnancy and went on to have a lovely little boy.

A threatened abortion or threatened miscarriage is kind of medical terminology for " you are bleeding and we don't entirely know why". Just relax for now. They may continue to monitor you in a few weeks and of course call in if the bleeding gets worse.

Thank you all soo much for all of your advice. The doctor didnt explain what a threatened abortion was and I was so confused. I am trying to stay positive and calm until I can see my doctor tomorrow. I will keep you updated. Thanks for your support!
