clomid and miscarriage

Does anyone have any info on the risks of miscarrying when taking clomid? I'm on fertility treatment and unbelievably fell pregnant after my first cycle of clomid. At six weeks i miscarried though. I'm totally and utterly devastated. Doctor says to give my body a month to recover than try again but i'm terrified that the same will happen again as some people say the clomid can increase your risk of miscarriage. Can anyone please help?

My doctor did tell me that you have almost 2x's as much chance of m/c-ing while on Clomid.

I am sorry for your loss.

From everything I read there may be an increased risk which is very low anyway. I have known a few ladies with clomid pregnancies like mine was and they all went fine. I don't think it is any great increase from a natural pregnancy. Obviously the risk is based on the fact that there is usually more than one egg stimulated with clomid so you can have multiple pregnancies and this in itself increases the risk of m/c so just read very carefully and make sure you aren't worrying yourself about it when there is no real need xxx

My dr failed to mention that there may be an increased risk, whether i would have been better equipped to deal with the m/c who knows, but a heads up would have been nice! Thank you for sharing this with me, it help to know that it may be an ongoing factor in my life should i be fortunate enough to conceive again! It's so hard to get the info from doctors, sometimes feel like i'm All the best to you xx

Thank you Logiebear. It is reassuring to know that it doesn't happen to all clomid conceptions. Hard not to panic about the next time though, in a way i'm even scared to try again for fear of falling and then losing all over again. the need for a child is too strong however, so thank you, i'll take you're experiences and hold tight to them. All the best to you xx

Quite rightly so. I wish you the very best of luck. I'm about to start my second cycle of clomid and am hoping it works as well as the first time and this time it sticks! Word of advice - within those first 5 days when you're taking clomid, try and stay away from alcohol! I had two glasses of wine one night (normally this wouldn't touch the sides!) and was quite ill the next day. I felt very dizzy with a thumping headache and at one point i passed out. I felt quite lightheaded for most of the time i ws taking it but the alcohol definately made it worse. Just wanted to let you know, though it may not affect you the same way. Good luck with you're treatment, i'm keeping everything crossed for you xx
