TTC when being referred for RMC

Would it make sense not to TTC at the mo?

I am being referred to the gynaecological dept of my local hospital where I am going to asked to be referred to St Mary's Hospital, London.

I am thinking wait until the tests start.

After five miscarriages I think this would make sense.

What do you think?

Thanks Rumps x

hi there,

Its hard to wait but that probably is the best, some RMC ask you not to TTC until they have seen you as the treatment is sometimes started from when you ovulate or from when you get your BFP. I saw Mr Shehata's team 2 weeks ago and feel positive about the outcome, Hope it goes well for you,

I have to admit my personal experience with my local hospital has been great but they do vary, I thought I was miscarrying at the very beginning of my 2nd pregnancy so EPAU sent me to have losts of blood tests where they check your thyroid, your blood clotting factors and your nk cells, they also gave me a letter to give my GP so she could refer me to a RMC, the pregnancy went on till I was 10 weeks. I then had to rebook my RMC appointment, they were very nice and they had the results which showed I had high nk cells, this means that when I ovulate I start to take prednisolone if AF turns up I stop and wait till I ovulate again if I get BFP I carry on and start taking progesterone, sometimes they give you heparin but my blood clotting tests were fine, I also take .75mgs of aspirin, folic acid and vitamin D everyday.
I know that Prof Q starts you on the prednisolone when you get a BFP, they all do things a little differently.

The staff were lovely and helpful, and i'm feeling hopeful that this is what it takes to reach my dreams, only time will tell so hopefully my body will calm down so we can get on with things, its just taking a bit too long
Hope this helps, if you have any other questions just ask

Lisa x

Thank you Lisa for this info lovely. It must give you so much hope that someone is truly taking on board what has happened to you and prescribing you tablets etc to hopefully make your dreams come true.

I won't be referred to my hospital until February which is fine with me as this gives me time to sort my cycle out and be stronger xxx

Hi im new to this forum (well any forum tbh!!!) and just dont know where I belong!
Im just going through my 2nd miscarriage.
My first was in february 2011 at 7 weeks and this time again at 7 weeks.
My docs wont send me for tests but i am convinced that something is wrong as i have seen both heartbeats at 6 weeks but by 8 week scan shows hb stopped at 7 weeks..i had early scans as i was spotting throughout...i am tempted to go private i dont really have the money but as having a baby is my only priority im thinking i may just have to find the money..i cant believe that this is just bad luck and the thought of going through this again just scares me...any thoughts what you would do and what sort of tests there are out there...im sorry to gatecrash this thread but i am so sad and down at the mo i really dont know where to turn....im sorry to hear all your sad stories too im really crossing my fingers for a better 2012 for all of us...xxxx

hi so sad, its so heartbreaking and frustrating when you don't feel you're getting the support you should. They usually make you suffer 3 miscarriages before they do any tests unless you have a great GP and are over a certain age, I'm 38 and fortunate to have a good GP and NHS service where I live.

I t is expensive to go private around £1000, so I would keep pushing your GP. They usually send you for lots of blood tests to check your thyroid level blood clotting factors and nk cells. Your GP should be able to test you for your thyroid and perhaps your progesterone level as well. GP's don't generally prescribe the medication without a consultant involved just purely because its not their field or speciality.

My tests came up with high nk cells so have been given steroids and progesterone to take. Sometimes the test come back and don't show anything though. If I can help in anyway or if you just want to chat let me know, big hugs x

My GP was able to do a lot of the preliminary blood work, e.g. thyroid, and gave me medication, etc., and it will save some money -- but the more expensive tests are usually through a consultant/private. In my case, we kept trying after a mc/two possible chemicals (very late periods with mc-like tissue, clots, etc.), and it gave us a chance to adjust medication, etc., so I would pester your GP for the basic stuff (especially thyroid, iron levels, etc.) and then make sure you are as healthy as can be when you see the RE, etc. But I wouldn't keep trying until you see the consultant (in my case, we were waiting to start IVF as we had seen all the specialists in February and had been able to resolve some basic, but important stuff....also, ask your GP about metformin (if you have PCOS) as some studies indicate it may decrease the rate of miscarriage (other studies disagree), we kept on until wk20 of this pregnancy, and I felt hopeful for the first time in two years....

best wishes
