Chromosomes miss match

If Chromosomes are to blame for a miscarriage when does this occur? When is it chromosomes join in pregnancy?

Sorry to give a biology lesson here, but this is what I know of them. Sorry if it's tmi!!
See, your eggs are half of one full chromosome and his sperm are the other half. Chromosomes come into play right away. If your egg is mutated (chromosome is missing parts) or the same if his sperm is mutated, then when they come together there will be a problem. Its not to say that all your eggs or all his sperm are going to be the same (mutated), the female or male just happened to release a bad one.

I hope that helps! or I didn't confuse you more!

I'm not sure. But it does seem to me like an awful lot of first pregnancies end in miscarriage. That is explained away as "chromosomal abnormalities" but that doesn't make sense to me. Why are so many first ones lost? It seems to me there must be a different reason, but no one will say what it is.

at least here i can help as a scientist: chromosomes come into play way before your baby is conceived, that is when your eggs and his sperms are made. each egg ideally has half of the chromosomes, and one sperm only brings the other half. sometimes one egg can get fertilized by two sperms by mistake and this also generates chromosome abnormalities.
but what occurs in most of the cases is this:
when the embryo is made, it has to divide and make new cells. each new cell should have all of the chromosomes in two copies, one from you and one from the father. as the babies cells are replicating and growing really fast, some errors can occur in this process, and then "the chromosome abnormalities" occur.

so many 1st pregnancies end like this... and why? well here i balance between a scientist and a mere human...
...the scientific part of me thinks it like the 1st time with everything: the 1st time we tried to walk, we all fell, the 1st time we tried to swim we all sank, the 1st time we rode a bicycle we all fell as well, the 1st sex ever is usually a disaster... and here the same... it's so new for the body that it needs to learn...just that this learning is quite expensive emotionally, mentally and physically for us.

..my human side believes it is not only us who decide.. it is also those little new souls who decide if to come into this world now or later... so i prefer thinking my son is still here with us, and just waiting for the right moment FOR HIM to join us here.. maybe he still has some work to do there above, maybe he just wanted to bring me and his father more closer together, maybe there are lessons the two of us must learn, maybe there are things we must finish here before his time comes... and up there, where there is no time and space, it is so clear and simple to him. he knows it all and needs no further explanations... like we do...

Thank you so much for posting this. Both the scientific and the human explanations give me great comfort x

It depends on when the information is needed. If chromosomes play a part. Then you MC whenever the pregnancy progresses to the part where the chromosomes don't match. Hense, you had all the information until the 8th week, however at the 8th week, the chromosomes don't have the information needed and the pregnancy can't continue resulting in MC. This is why most miscarriages happen in the first 13 weeks. After that, all the chromosomes have matched up.
