low HCG - what does that mean?

I had my second consecutive miscarriage yesterday

They took my blood and my HCG was "3"
and last miscarriage they took my blood also and it was "6"

I am concerned about these numbers being so low. I took a HPT a few days ago and had a dark line. Does the fact I have such low numbers mean I have some sort of hormonal problem?? as the nurse said it was odd to have such low numbers but didn't elaborate. Or do the low numbers just mean there was a chromosomal problem with the embryo (which is kind of random I guess) which means it was just a fluke.

Does anyone know? It would make me feel so much better to know it was just two unlucky occurrences of having bad egg/sperm and not a problem with us.

HCG is the hormone you get during pregnancy...
Anything under 5 is considered not pregnant....
The fact you have just said (I am so sorry for you hun) that you are having a miscarriage - the 6 may be natures course of lowering levels.
In a continuing pregnancy the levels should double every 2-3 days Ish.
So sorry for your loss - my guess is there's nothing wrong with your hormones hun... Just a sad time for natures reasons to be unfortunate xxx

Just read your post AGAIN - sorry
3 and 6 are normally for a miscarriage as anything under 5 as I say is considered not pregnant so your hormones are going down to the levels after pregnancy due to your miscarriage .

Big hugs zxx xx

thanks for the response. I am just concerned that on the day of the m/c my hcg and progesterone were so low. I am worried it may be a hormone problem causing the m/c b/c of the low numbers as opposed to a m/c causing low hormone numbers. I just hope I can sustain a pregnancy again.

well your hcg level had to have been greater than 25 at one point or you would not have gotten a positive HPT. that has to be 25 or greater. At one of my doctor's appointments towards the end of my miscarriage they took a urine test and the pregnancy test came up negative but the blood test came up beta hcg at 23! Only two points and didn't show on a urine test.

Anyway, how far along were you? Usually doctors don't start investigating cause until you've had three miscarriages. So it maybe just an unlucky turn of events. Good luck to you!!

As hobnob has said your hcg has to be greater then 25 to get a positive result which then double every 48hrs, iv recently had a mc in 24hrs my hcg level droped from 185 to 35 which continued to drop to under 5. Hope this helps you xxx
