Hoping to return to cloth.... for baby number two!

Hello ladies!
Its been forever since i posted in here: DS is almost 4 time goes so quickly!!

Anyway, i am expecting again, should be due around mid October, and am slowly letting myself get excited about natural parenting techniques again! yey! We did cloth bums, amber necklace & BLW with Travis, and i cant wait to get the fluffy nappies out again! This time, i also hope to add babywearing to the equation, although i havent the foggiest of where to start with that one!

Im guessing that cloth nappies have changed over the past 2 and a bit years weve been out of nappies... so please tell me: what are the favourites at the moment? any new and exciting developments/releases i need to know about?

I know that each baby is a different size & shape etc, but last time i favoured ittis as they looked so trim (although werent always the most reliable for us), close parent pop-ins for the double gussets (these were bombproof for us, but most were bought preloved & i think theyre pretty past it now ) bamboozles & a motherease wrap for newborn stage. and blueberry because they looked so pretty. Also did BG flips for a bit, but they seemed to give him a rash (although i now wonder if they simply needed more washing/rinsing than the others?!)

Spam me with brands to research!!!!!

I love the bumgenius elementals, I like the freetime ones too but not as much as the elementals. We use the flip covers but I'm not as keen on them as the other nappies but they are handy for going out although they kept leaking at first! We've just bought a couple of the 4.0 version and I really like them too. Sorry that was written so messily!

Congratulations by the way!

My memory is terrible so you may have seen some of this already!
  • Tots Bots are on V4 of the Easyfit - it looks pretty good with 'binky' fabric replacing the minky they used in the previous version.
  • Close have a new new Pop-in, that also looks pretty good and they do newborn nappies now, in fact loads of brands do newborn nappies.
  • BG have updated and renamed the Organic AIO to the Elemental - well worth a look.
  • Tots Bots Bamboozle Stretches are available in pretty colours/stripes and they have updated their wraps.
  • Itti have stepped back from the UK market but are still available in some shops, just not everywhere like they used to be.
  • Little Lamb do sized and OS pocket nappies which are pretty popular.
  • A Mama Knows fitteds are pretty popular although there's some debate over whether they're really a fitted and whether the laminate (PUL or similar) is a good or bad thing!
  • Bambino Mio have an AIO called the MioSolo - some love it, some hate it (personally I think it's a glorified ebay cheapie!).
  • Blueberry brought the Basix and Simplex AIOs to us - the Basix is great but I haven't tried the Simplex (and Swaddlebees merged into Blueberry as they were the same company anyway).
  • Peachy Green and Planet Wise are good names to look up, as are Sloomb.
  • Wee Notions have stayed constant but brought out a OS Northern Light and made a few tweaks.
  • FuzziBunz has updated the OS nappy to last longer.
  • Rumparooz, Thirsties, Bummis, bumGenius, Flip, Charlie Banana, Nature Babies... loads more... have made tweaks to inserts, prints etc.

Thanks,
I have just had a browse at the bumgenius website, and the newborn nappies look fun to try. Is the difference between freetime & elementals just the different absorbant material? I remember preferring natural bamboo type materials last time, although that was with a toddler, and not a tiny baby with tiny wees! so maybe microfibre types would be best to start off with?

Wow! Thats a lot of nappies to research! i can just see the addiction starting again already! I have had a look at some of the brands, im very intrigued by the new pop-ins: they look lovely! Very intrigued by the totsbots binky fabric too. I have also noticed lots of new newborn nappies, they do look very cute! But as theyre not acyually in them for very long, im wondering about buying preloved. Other than cloth nappy tree, where else would you recommend for preloved?
Thanks for all the help!

The freetimes are less absorbent but dry very fast, my LO wees quite a lot and I love the elementals but and am more than happy with the freetime, I just have to change them more often. I love the colours too! x

You could either buy newborn nappies preloved or have a look during Real Nappy Week (28th April - 4th May 2014). There are usually some good deals then. I bought most of my newborn stash during RNW a few years ago and got such good deals that when I sold the nappies on after using them for a couple of months, I got pretty much all of my money back even though I'd bought new.

If you do buy at full price though, newborn nappies tend to hold their value very well as you don't use them for that long so it's not really a waste of money, especially compared to disposables

Facebook is the place to look for preloved nappies now, most of the groups are called something like For Sale Preloved Nappies or Preloved Nappies etc.
