I have some newborn diapers that I have from people that I will use until I knowfor sure his size and I get it settled and learn how to use it by practicing! The other cloth diapers seem so much easier than the prefolds to use, but I guess I'll start out small and work it up to those. I should have thought about it sooner and stocked up earlier inpregnancy!
Thanks ladies!
I've been watching lots of youtube videos also
also check out diaperswappers.com

I am starting with prefolds and covers. How many you need really depends on how often you want to wash. Every other day or every 2 days seems to be typical. You'll probably want at least 30-36 infant sized prefolds and 6 covers. I recommend the Thirsties duo covers because there are only 2 sizes to ever buy - so they last forever. They also have really good reviews. I've also picked up a few pockets on sales but I'll mostly be using prefolds.

I recommend going to diaperswappers.com forum for lots of help getting started. People also sell and swap their homemade and/or used diapers there so you can find some deals.

I'll check the website out
So excited to get started and be a cloth diapering/breastfeeding mommy!
I would have started earlier, but was to afraid to even mention cloth diapers to my husband. Since I will be breastfeeding, he can't help with that but he could on diaper changes and I was afraid he would refuse to mess with those, but he was all for it last night when I mentioned it Disposable diapers are so expensive where I live! A box of 193 is around 30.00 and I'm not sure diapers last very long with newborns. I heard they go through ALOT the first months. I will also be making my own baby food once he is off the breast and on solids. All these are either better for baby, evnviorment, and our pockets!

Also, if you're willing, there are some "cheapies" that are from china. My friend uses almost all www.sunbabydiapers.com and she loves them. The bulk of this baby's stash is going to be from there.

If you're crafty at all, there are a few dozen sites out there that will show you how to sew your own diapers. I love the Rita's Rump Pocket diaper, it's super easy to sew and really flexible on size. (It's a one size pocket diaper, so you still need to stuff it with something {those prefolds are really good here!} and it'll fit from tiny to toddler depending on how you fold it.) I've made my baby a good 10 or so of those for... $20 in fabric or so? There are also suggestions on www.diapersewing.com if you want to make your own inserts (a thrift store and some towels can save you tons of money here.)

This is a good google doc that has a bunch of sewing resources... again, assuming you're crafty at all. You'd be surprised at how easy they really are to make!

How can you afford them?? Um.... I have saved hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars using cloth diapers. Yeah $15-20 a diaper that will last you until they are potty trained, or $20 for a pack of diapers that will be gone in a week. So if you do the math on that say they are trained by 2 years on disposable diapers, $2080 about... (and could easily be more)

Or... $200-300 for cloth....

Even with the huge bulk boxes (we bought those when we used disposables) 193 diapers lasted us about 17 days when LO was a newborn until she was about 2.5 months when we switched to cloth. Oh and she's 15 months almost and STILL goes through 10 diapers a day. So I could absolutely not even imagine how much we would be spending on disposable diapers.

I just got the cheap ones £2.50 a go. And padding was cheap to. I have about 18 of them collected. I wish i had more money for dear ones as they leak on William so I know when Alex gets older and has bigger pees and more poohs it will be harder but he cant use disposable so I have no choice. Still saves me money though.

I was curious about the ones from china on ebay aswell. I wasn't sure if they were good quality since they sell them so cheap compared to others.
Sadly, im the worlds worst at crafty things, and never been taught how to sew. I wished I had been though!

Oh and don't forget cloth wipes while you're at it. If you can sew at all you can make your own out of flannel. I just cut 8x8 squares (I did a double thickness - so 2 8x8 squares with wrong sides together), rounded the corners and used a cover stitch around the edge. If you're lucky enough to have a serger it's even easier. I went to JoAnn fabric for my flannel when it was 50% off - but they run coupons pretty frequently too. If you're washing diapers you may as well wash the wipes too you know?

Some people also like to use flannel on one side, terry or velour on the other. Makes good for big messes!

I picked up some of the Sunbaby diapers myself. Their quality seems fine. They seem comparable to the BumGenius diapers I've looked at... the stitching seems fine, they held up when I washed them, etc. I haven't used them on a real baby yet, but they seem to work for me. Downside is I ordered them right after Thanksgiving, so they took almost a month (!) to get here in the holiday mail traffic.

The ones on Ebay seem to be mostly alvababy diapers. (I don't know their website off the top of my head but I'm sure google can help you.) The same friend who uses mostly Sunbaby ordered one of the Alvababy off Ebay, and her opinion was they were really nice and cushy but BIG. She's got a small one (14 lbs at 4 months) and it still drowns him. The size 1 Sunbaby fits him incredibly well, and the size 2 is pretty nice as well. She said he's been wearing them since his cord fell off, which is pretty young.

Hope that helps!

I've seen many from china and they will take around 2-4 weeks to get here, which will be fine cause people bought me disposable diapers I can use till then. And what do you think about these from china?
