trying to understand kinds of cloth.

I clothed my 23month old starting when she was 8mons. It didn't last long. I just bought pocket diapers and some Aios for her. I have a 4mon old I cloth now. There are so many kinds of diapers out there. Aios, pockets, fitted, duo, ect. I know aios you don't need anything but the diapers. Pockets are easy to use. Fitted needs a cover and don't really know what duos are. What stumps me as I search for diapers is that I find lots of very cute fitted diapers that need covers for. Why make them so cute to only have to cover them?

Duos, do you mean like Thirsties Duos? That's just the name of the nappy, what Thirsties calls them (they use it to indicate that the nappy/cover comes in two sizes as a compromise between one-size and sized nappies). Or do you mean All-in-twos? They're a cover with inserts that usually snap in, also known as Snap-ins. Or maybe you mean two parters? That just means any nappy that needs a cover, so fitted or flat nappies.

It's personal preference about patterned fitted nappies. Most people wear pretty underwear at some point - same thing really. Also, you can use fitteds without covers sometimes, like when there's only an hour left before bed but LO needs changing, or when it's really warm, or in the garden with no trousers on. You could say the same about pretty covers - they normally go under clothes

Thank you, that was helpful. Yes I was talking about thirsties dous. Some need wraps or covers. Are wraps and covers thesame thing?

Yep, wraps, covers, outers, all mean the waterproof outside layer you add separately to some nappies

If you want to get specific, 'wrap' normally means a waterproof bit that's shaped like a nappy with aplix or snaps to fasten it. They're usually PUL but can be fleece or wool.

'Outer' often refers to the waterproof bit of systems like Flips or AI2s where you have specific inserts to go with the waterproof bit. They are usually PUL.

'Cover' is probably the most general term; it can mean a wrap, an outer or something like wool/fleece trousers. Generally though, the three terms are used interchangeably.

Sometimes people use 'soaker' for wool or fleece but I tend to avoid it as some say 'soaker' to mean insert/booster - confusing!
