Not sure if this is the right section of BnB...but thought I would give it a go, as this is about as close as I can find!
Curious if anyone has done any Natural family planning WHILE breastfeeding?
I'm breastfeeding my 7month old son, and am curious how I would go about charting and if breastfeeding interfers with it?
I've come off birth control pills just in the last 2-3 weeks, and now it's been about 50 some days since I've had a period (not preggo)...and I want to be able to chart properly to avoid pregnancy right now!
No advice on this matter specifically as I'm not a parent yet. However a lady who posts in my journal, 254, charted for the last year at least and she was BF. The only times it became a problem was when she was up just prior to taking her temp or if she slept in because she was up late.
I'd still go for the temping and definitely check your CM as that will tell you a lot.
You'll notice a pattern after a few months and it'll become clearer for you. That being said this will likely only work if you have "regular" cycles I can tell you a lot more about that if you want but I'll keep this shorter for now
I'd start charting now if I were you! I'm breastfeeding my 9 month old and have been harting te past couple months for practice. There is sort of a learning curve for it so I recomend getting the hang of it now, even if your cycle is erratic its good to get in the habit of taking your temperature every morning. My cycle has been ranging from 30-42 days and I think that is due to bf at least in part, but I'm glad to practice the charting.
I highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, it is really the best resource
