I didn't BF my boy for long but I was 3 when I self-weaned, although that was norm for my mom's culture so no hiding it!

I'm still bfing so cant answer for my LO but I recently learned I self weaned at 4 months. I hope DD lasts at least 3 times as long. I think my brother was 6 mos when he self weaned.

The last feed I gave Erin was at 14 months. It got to the point she was more excited for a bottle of juice than me.

I think if I hadn't needed to go back to work it would have been different but in the end I was feeding her more for me than because she wanted/needed it.

I'm so envious of other mother who are still feeding I miss it.

Billy is showing no signs of stopping yet It will be interesting to see how long he nurses for. He only has a few feeds a day from me and has just dropped another. But he still asks for milk so I doubt he'll stop for a long time yet.

This is quite an interesting article. It suggests that completely child led weaning is unlikely to happen before age 4.

I always said I'd allow Alice to self wean, but it hasn't worked that way. For a start, I got pregnant, so that already interferes with milk supply/taste and also unfortunately my feelings when nursing. We've night weaned, I don't offer milk, and postpone feeds if they're not convenient. Despite all that though, she's booby obsessed! She usually nurses at least 6 times a day, and asks for a lot more. I have no doubt she'll be well over 3 before weaning.
