I have one Bambino Mio that I got out of interest- the prefold is fine, but the covers are not good- made out of some plasticy stuff rather than PUL (soft fabric with a thin waterproof layer) with no crossover at the front for small-waisted babies, no laundry tabs, and not enough coverage at the sides meaning you get the nappy sticking out the side if you do anything but fold it in 3 and lay it in the cover. Definitely don't buy lots of them in one go.

I use a rubbish bin with a lid with a catch as a nappy bucket, no water in it (messy and smelly!) and wash every 2 days. My nappy bucket doesn't smell unless you have your face right next to it, unlike the bin of disposables I used for the first few weeks which stunk the whole house out!

You will need a lot of newborn nappies to wash every 3 days so you might want to think about doing it every 2 days if you don't want to buy a huge newborn stash. Remember they don't stay in the newborn sizes for long because they grow so quickly!
