We use Surcare for everything. It's a bit expensive but I never use anywhere near the recommended amount of powder so it lasts quite a while. For nappies I use a spoonful of detergent and select the extra rinse cycle. It could probably stand to do another rinse but I'm not that patient, lol. We haven't had any problems with absorbency or nappy rash from not rinsing enough. Although we did have problems with funky-smelling cloth so I do them all in 60 wash now, and that did the trick. Although we could stand to do a strip wash by now, I'm sure!

Never had a problem with Ecover, but now I use ecoballs, as there's absolutely no chance of build up with that, and it also helps neutralize the acid in wee. So I recommend ecoballs in with the load (2/3 full in the machine) a cold prewash, a long 60ºC wash with a tablespoonsful of Ecover laundry bleach (to help remove any stains). Then just one cold rinse,to remove the laundry bleach. If you don't use laundry bleach, you don't need to rinse at all.

I use Ecover (it was on offer) and we don't have any problems now. We did for a while but it turned out we were using too little powder. We do a rinse before, a rinse after and a long 40wash. Occasionally a 60. Haven't need to do a strip wash since we got this sorted
I do want to try ecoballs though but they're pricey if they don't work for us.

Fairy non-bio, then read that bio was supposed to be better for nappies. Not much difference tbh, wash at 40,50 or 60 depending on size of load and whether there is lots of poos or mainly wees. We do a cold rinse (sometimes 2 if there's lots of poo) then long wash with Ariel powder. 1 extra rinse cycle, sometimes 2. Then line dry if no rain (helps with stains and smells). I don't really like the smell of Ariel so might swap back to fairy
