From Moby to Manduca - any tips or tricks?

I have used a Moby since DS was born and WE love it. He is getting heavier now, so I thought we would move to a more substantial carrier. I chose the Manduca because it seemed to be the closest position to what we were doing already.

Well, WE don't like the Manduca. We are still using the Moby as preference. When we use the Manduca we are still front carrying and I have the straps crossing over at the back. But DS is so uncomfortable in it and cries when I pop him in. He seems to be in the centre and his legs fold up in the M position like they should. But it feels like the carrier flattens DS against my tum and splays his legs out uncomfortably. If I have it looser then DS bumps and jiggles around and doesn't feel secure at all. I only adjust the side straps when I am fastening it like the book says.

Is there a trick to getting the carrier to be 'rounder' surrounding DS, rather than flat? Should I wash it or fold it a certain way or something? Or is it just the more I use it the better it will get.

DS is over 20lb and 5 months old.

Spend a decent time playing with each of the adjustment straps on the body of the carrier. It makes a world of difference when it's well adjusted for LO. You might need a second pair of hands.

I'll be honest, and say I never really loved the maduca for front carries. I have a woven wrap, which I would always choose over it for on the front. However, on the back it's a dream. However, my OH preferred the manduca over the wrap for on the front too, so it is a personal preference.

Keep playing, you'll get the combo right eventually!

i agree play with all the adjustment straps. Scarlett is fine going between moby and manduca but i find wraps slightly more comfortable for me for front carries at least.

I love my manduca but I do almost exclusively back carries. If I do carry on the front for some reason, I will always use a woven wrap. My LO is almost 5 months and 18lbs.

I agree with patch - spend some time really adjusting the manduca to get it comfy. There is a big difference in positioning too - you will notice that in most SSCs the baby's legs are much farther apart and knees higher than in a stretchy. I find it hard to get the proper positioning in a stretchy once LO is bigger because they sag in it. Their knees should be higher than their bum and around your body rather than hanging down - and in a stretchy I find the material starts to bunch and their legs start to hang down.

I wore the manduca on the front with my son though - and I got it nice and comfy. I'm a woven wrap convert now though and only wear the manduca occasionally with my 2.5 year old. OH uses it all the time though - and he only does front carries.
