Cloth-diapering Mamas!

I am only 13 weeks, but I'd like to start my shopping within the next couple weeks and I'm wondering what I'm going to need! I am going to cloth diaper, but what goes along with the cloth diapering, wet bags? inserts? best diaper brands? sprayers? etc...Just need to know what I've got to get to be prepared for cloth diapering.

I think I could talk about cloth all night long, so Ill try not to ramble too much.
It's all down to personal choice and what kind of build your baby is, as well as how heavily they wet but these are my fav brands/types...
My absolute favourites are...
Bumgenius organics - trim, lovely colours, very very absorbent, birth to potty so no need to size up.
Itti bitti d'lish SIO (snap in one) - trim, super soft minky fabric, bright bold colours, has a stay dry layer next to the skin. A sized nappy, so you'll need to size up after a while but nappies sell extremely well preloved.
Others are...
Rumparooz
Tots bots (easyfit)
Peachy greens
Issy bear

Other things you'll need...
-2 large wet bags (one to use while the other is washing/drying) I have leslies boutique hanging wet bags which keep up to 30 nappies in.
-A smaller wet/dry bag to take out and about with you. These have two zips, one is lined with waterproof PUL for all your dirty nappies, the other is for dry unused nappies and all your other bits and bobs.
-Liners. Either reusable fleece liners (which also provide a stay dry layer) or flushable liners. I prefer flushable as it's easier to clean up poos, Little lamb viscose liners are my favourite. They're really soft and keep bums dry.
-Vest extenders may be needed depending on how bulky your nappies are. These extend the length of your babygrows and vests by about an inch. They can be extremely important as if your baby clothes fit too tightly around the bum it will cause wicking.
- A cloth safe detergent. Fairy/Persil non-bio is meant to be good but I use Rockin' green and we've never had the problems we had with fairy.

Oooh and use reusable wipes!! You may as well, they will go in the same wet bag and get washed at the same time so save yourself some extra money

I'm probably missing some really obvious things. Just ask if you think of anything

I'm in Canada so i'll have to do some research about whether or not I can find these brands in Canada. I'm definitely going to make my own wipes, some reusable and some flushable. Thanks...What about something called a sprayer?

Not mnay ladies in the UK have a sprayer, they are quite unusual over here. You may have to wait for a US / Canadian lady to come onto the thread and give their opinion on them!

What you need:
1. Nappies
2. Somewhere to store them until wash day - I use a big pail with a lid ("dry pail"), some people use an extra large wet bag as the pp described.

That is all you actually need. There are several things you may want:
1. a wet bag for out and about (most people have one of these)
2. Liners (paper or cloth, I use both for different situations). Keep nappies clean and make poo clean up easier after weaning. May be needed if you are using nappies without a stay dry layer (most fitteds and prefolds etc).
3. cloth wipes
4. mesh liners for the dry pail (if pailing), definitely not necessary but I like them! Means you can just throw the whole bag in the wash!
5. tea tree oil or some nice oil to keep your pail smelling fresh

As for brands, I mostly use AIOs and pockets so can only comment really on those. My favourites are:
Bumgenius v3/v4 (though if I were starting now I would go for Freetime to try)
TotsBots Easyfits
Blueberry pockets

A sprayer definitely isn't a necessity, especially with a newborn as you can literally throw the whole nappy in the machine, poo and all. If you do find that you'd like one down the road when it firms up they're easy as to make rather than buying one. You can find tutorials online how to do it :-)

Agreed, Thanks Ladies... @ Charlotte! I plan on calling my baby Noah if it's a boy, and William if I have another down the road! I just thought it was neat you have those names!

I went without a sprayer for the first few weeks and it wasn't so bad doing the rinsing b hand. But hubby complained enough about the 'ick factor' so I bought one. What a timesaver!! A few seconds of spraying the diaper in the toilet and it worked wonders! I highly recommend them now. And looking back, I can't believe I didn't buy it from the beginning.

There's a lot of great brands of diapers from Canadian online stores. And most of them will have sales and gently used sections. Also free shipping if you order a certain amount.

Would you happen to have any links?

Thanks Ladies!
