a question to all mums with bubs that wear cloth nappys

My LO didnt have cloth nappies from birth,we started a bit later due to finance and then bought some Flips,BG,totsbots.I love them but they didnt love my boy first of all i had trouble with the fit and them leaking so bought more inserts and changed him every 1 to 2 hours. It has been much better since and sometimes when i have not been so quick he has been ok thankfully so thought i can cope with this now but then he started getting bad nappy rash! and i mean bad! we had a bit of it when he first started with cloth but nothing like this! any how i thought it was teeth related and the weather was so hot that he had days without any nappies and got rid of it but now its back again! and he is so sore im so upset for him as he hates having a nappy change understandably.Iv bought some sposes (eco) yesterday and it dose seem a bit better any one got any advice? will i have to give up cloth? any one been through this but its got better? im hoping its just teething and im gonna try his nice cloth nappys again tonight.Im having another bub 8 weeks time and was gonna get some more but im losing confidence...

I'm not at all a fan of nappies with inserts to be honest. We've tried them and hated them. I only keep them around for my MiL to use. We have ours in a nappy with a wrap, so motherease Sandys or folded Terries under a motherease wrap. I use one little lamb booster for both of mine now, and flushable liners. Mine will last 3-4 hours in a nappy unless they've pooed of course, and go overnight with no bother. Teddy is a heavy wetter at night so I try to put him in a terry rather than sandy as they're more absorbent in my experience. We only get nappy rash when they're teething now, although teddy had it horribly as a newborn after spending a day in sposies. Metanium works best for us to get rid of it when it happens. It's no more hassle to wash, the covers just hang dry and I tumble the nappies or line dry if I'm feeling virtuous.

Have you strip washed them? Trapped detergent also traps bacteria which can cause horrible nappy rash if you don't get rid of it.

Tbh we are very new to cloth and Isabella got slighy nappy rash when we started .. i think it might have been her skin adjusting to the different materials.

And recently (well 2 days ago) she got the worst nappy rash ever she screamed when we changed her or sat her down.. since ive started putting her in wraps and nappys she seems better as AuntyE above said! We still use our totsbots because i love them! And loads of metanium and nappy off time! xxx

So are you saying try some different nappies? i was going to get some more any way but feel reluctant with this going on when i was orginally buying them i was adviced to get BG, Flips so im not sure which will be best? as i had trouble with the fit (i think? not really sure what the prob was) they do seem better now with regards to leaking but like i say ,i dont leave the change more than 1 to 2 hours max im using "one life" nappies on the night usually and that dose not leak but his bum is soaking in side. I have not got a tumble dryer so line dry or radiator. I did buy Metanium yesterday with the sposies so not sure which is working,i will go back to his cloth later and see. The nappies you mention, where do you get them from? are they british? i still feel so out of my depth with what to get with all these different names? bit thick im afraid i get confused with what iv got even!

I would do at least one wash with detergent or something like napisan and rinse a couple of times afterwards. Could well be a build up of nasties on the nappies. We wash with biological as I don't have to follow the crazy BG care instructions motherease are easy to find on eBay, Sandys are a fitted nappy with poppers and they come in two sizes. teddy is nearly out of the small size and Imogen is in the large. New they're about £9 for a nappy and then the wraps come in poppered (airflow) or Velcro (rikki). Imogen wears large airflow wraps and teddy is in medium. The wraps are really easy to pick up a bit cheaper on eBay, but they're about £9 new as well. Boosters are a bit like inserts, but you just put them on top of the nappy and stick any liner on top of that. they tend to be around a pound each. If you like, I could try and do a little video of how ours work?

It sounds like your LO is out weeing the ones you have, so could be worth doing a detergent wash to strip out any nasties and then maybe trying boosting them before buying anything new. Metanium is amazing for nappy rash though, really clears it up for us.
