Can you start from newborn with a woven wrap?

I'm just trying to budget what I need for the new baby, I know it's early days but it's fun to organise.

I really want to babywear this time around, I tried a ring sling with Thomas and got put off as it was difficult and I wasn't sure I was doing it right.

I was thinking though, do I have to start out with a moby type first? I'm not sure if wovens are very comfy for new babies, or for mums new to baby wearing.

I'm also worried about not finding one long enough, I'm 4'10 but a size 22UK so I'm a weird shape . I'm pretty huge I guess. The wraps here I can only find going to 4.6m.

A moby starts from $70 new and the woven I am looking at is $130 new, so not cheap. Also baby will be born in the last month of spring so it will be getting hot, the moby looks so hot to wear.

You can start with a woven but if you have never wrapped before they have a steeper learning curve than a moby.

I'm 5"8 and a size 22 and my size 7 didymos is long enough.

You can totally start with a woven, but if you are new to wrapping and baby is a newborn then the stretchy wraps are a bit easier to deal with. They are snug and comfy because of the stretch, and with the stretchy you pre-tie the wrap then can pop baby in and out. This is great for diaper changes, etc. With a woven you need to wrap them in and can't easily pop baby in and out. I do love a stretchy for newborns - my daughter lived in hers for 3 months until I switched to a woven.

But you can totally use a woven from birth. If I could only get 1 wrap, I would get a woven xx

Cool, thanks guys. I think I will start with a stretchy one, after seeing some videos on youtube they look easier to use for a newbie.

I can't find many brands around New Zealand for a woven though, which I'll get also (can play around with it with my toddler I guess? He is in a "carry me" phase). I'll look at ebay.

I've gotten all my wraps over the internet as most brands are made elsewhere. And you can absolutely carry your toddler - I can still carry mine and he's 2.5. The great thing about wraps is you can modify the carry so it doesn't interfere with growing bump! x

I think there are some people from NZ or Aust. on the baby wearer boards. You could always look there on FSOT. I bought my first wrap on there which is nice because it was already broken in.

You sure can! I honestly don't think learning to wrap with a woven is harder than a stretchy. Wrapping is wrapping especially if it's your first time.
