Cloth advice please!

Hi. I've been looking into the possibility of using cloth since I used disposables with my son and I know we got through hundreds!

Since it's likely that this will be our last baby, I was really looking into the birth to potty sized nappies so I don't have to go through the motions of spending on various sizes when baby will grow out of them quite quickly. I also don't want to spend a ton of money if I can help it, and although I know there is nothing wrong with used nappies, I would kind of like a few new ones, just because I feel a bit odd buying cloth which someone else has used (I know, I know i'm strange)

I borrowed a flip nappy from a friend last year, so I know how easy they are to use, but I wondered if anyone uses plain old terry nappies with the nappy nipper and a wrap and if so, what sort do you feel are best?
I am thinking this might be the cheaper option for us and since i'm not 100% sure I want to use cloth full time, I won't feel so bad if they are one size since it doesn't matter if I don't start using them straight away.

So....after all that ramble, do any of you use the standard terry nappy, what brand, pros and cons and are they easy to use? I was amazed when watching youtube vids of the nappy lady showing how to fold them, since I remember playing with them on dollys when I was a child and just did a triangle, which I now know wouldn't soak up a drip, let alone an hour or two of wee!!!

Many thanks in advance for any replies!

I've tried every type of nappy going and I'm working my way through all the different brands too . I recently bought some terries to try and I love them! They're simple, efficient and cheap. They dry quickly and they're fun to fold and put on. You can get dyed ones but I just prettify them with a nice wrap.

I have Nature Babies 60cm ones in both cotton and bamboo. Both have shrunk a LOT though and it's a squeeze to get them on my LO who has an exceptionally fat bottom! They should last a normal sized bottom well though I think. I have no idea whether they're a good make or not but they work well for us, though I haven't gotten them to work overnight yet. Even if you did need to size up at some point, you could use the smaller ones as boosters in the big ones so there's no wastage. In theory I prefer the bamboo ones as I know they are softer, more absorbent and trimmer but I haven't actually noticed that in practice - cotton works perfectly well. Cotton is more hard wearing too, and quite a bit cheaper so if you want to save money I would probably just go for cotton, perhaps with a few bamboo for times when you need more absorbency, or you could always buy some bamboo boosters.

Ah brilliant thank you so much! My little boy was quite big when he was born and did have quite a rump on him too so will keep an eye out for the shrinkage you speak of!

I really appreciate you taking the time to comment too as so many people I know who use cloth go for the newer fitted nappies, I don't know many who have experience with standard terries!

Thank you xx

I do really love fitteds, they're probably my nappy of choice for reliability at all ages, but terries are pretty great too
